Lightweight, extremely warm and heavily insulated, the Expedition Mitts from Rab are designed for the coldest conditions imaginable. The outer fabric is made from Pertex Endurance, providing significant weather protection for insulated garments in extreme conditions. It incorporates an ultra-thin air permeable coating that is both highly breathable, water and wind resistant. This layer protects the high quality down and synthetic insulation inside the mitts and helps the down maintain its high level of loft.
Inside the gloves, ultra high quality 850 fill power down is used on the back of the hand and the thumb and dual layered PrimaLoft Gold is used on the palm. The reasoning behind the different insulated fabrics is down to moisture; the more moisture is in contact with certain areas of the glove, the more chance it will have of eventually creeping through the outer. PrimaLoft will still maintain all of its warmth, even while wet, therefore it is used where the most water will be in contact with the glove, on the palm, and where you sweat the most. On the back of the hand and the thumb, ultra high quality down has been used as it has a superior warmth-to-weight ratio compared with synthetic fabrics, and is not as in contact with as much moisture as the palm.
Durable and thick 70d fabric has been placed in high wear areas, and a textured grip is included on the palm for grip in cold, wet conditions. Each strap on the wrist has also been designed to be adjusted easily with one hand.
