Using a mixture of Merino wool, Nylon and Lycra, the Descender is a technical midlayer designed to offer increased durability without sacrificing warmth. Icebreaker are also using their new striped fleece fabric for increased warmth and protection.
Thicker and warmer than their baselayers, the descender also offers a zipped chest pocket for a phone, keys or other small objects with a media cord port, allowing a headphone cable to be routed up without removing layers. Also included are two hand pockets and thumb loops at the end of the sleeves, two ideal solutions for when the gloves get left on the windowsill by the front door.
Icebreaker are one of only a few companies in the world that use the best quality, super fine merino fibers in their garments; this results in a non-itchy quality not normally associated with woolen fabrics.
When you are warm the wool transports moisture away from the skin and the evaporation of this moisture helps to cool you down; however the merino fibres also contain millions of tiny air pockets that retain body heat to maintain you body temperature when the weather turns cold.
Merino wool is naturally odour resistant because bacteria find it hard to hold onto the surface of the merino fibres, therefore it can't sit and multiply to create bad smells. This top is great on multi-day trips as you don't have to pack as many clothes; this is due to the fact that you can wear them for quite a few of days at a time without them getting smelly. Great for active use or everyday wearing.
