Featuring a synthetic insulation, a roomy internal volume and a compressible pack size, the Abisko could possibly be one of the best suited sleeping bags for the British winter.
Insulation is provided by Fjallraven's own Supreme Microloft SB, a synthetic man made fibre which still maintains almost all of it's warmth when wet. The actual fabric is incredibly simply, it's just 100% polyester. However the way Fjallraven transform this into their own version to insulate sleeping bags and jackets is a little more complex. Using a mixture of solid and hollow fibres in an extremely fine denier, Supreme Microloft SB provides excellent loft and recovers well after compression, making it an ideal insulation in sleeping bags. Unlike down, when it get's soaking wet (which happens a little too often in this country), you'll still be toasty and warm, not wrapped in a soggy ball of feathers like a drenched owl. If the bag does happen to get soaking wet, you are still able to hang it up by two external hang loops to dry out.
The Abisko three season bag is also an excellent bag to fit a range of people, with a 80cm shoulder width and a 180cm user height limit, there's plenty of room inside the bag to move about and wriggle to your hearts content.
Generally a tent will shield you from 99% of the wind, but there's always that little breeze that chills your nose in winter months. An excess of fabric around the hood of the Abisko creates a 'draft collar', a barrier to take away that little bit of uncomfortable wind that passes over your face.
For the small items such as a phone, money, keys or a bottle, an internal pocket keeps all your things safe and in one place. Alternatively, stick a hand warmer in there and you get a DIY hot water bottle.
A lightweight 20D shell and liner fabric allows the Abisko to be compressed down further, while the horizonal channels provide reliable and consistent warmth.
