Otaki is the Japanese Samurai slang word used to describe the oldest single wire sword. It's sharp and precise and is La Sportiva's inspiration for this shoe. This concept to be precise, powerful and delicate at the same time represents climbing just as well.
This shoe is a brilliant all-rounded climbing shoe, not too aggresive, not too flat just somewhere in the middle. The fit of the Otaki is designed to feel like a close fitting slipper; snug and comfortable with the performance benefits of a climbing shoe. This new construction method allows you to climb in the Otaki for greater periods of time without pain, yet still follows every curve of your foot for the most precise and sensitive holds.
Two velcro straps with opposite closures carry out the job of keeping the Otaki latched to your foot on the most difficult climbs. Their differentiated opposite pulling directions ensures both sides of the shoe have equal tension, improving the fit for greater technical accuracy and comfort.
To maximise durability and comfort, La Sportiva use a mix of synthetic and natural materials in different locations. The upper is coated in the highest quality suede leather which offers greater abrasion resistance compared with synthetic materials, while a 4mm thick Vibram XS-Edge sole provides a sticky and sensitive feel on any climbing surface (apart from ice, obviously).
