    About Trekitt

    Our Story

Established in Abergavenny at the foot of the Black Mountains in 1986 Trekitt is family owned and run. The thing that continues to drive and inspire us is our passion for the mountains and wild places and being able to share our experiences and adventures with our customers. We do this because we love doing it; and because the independent outdoor industry remains one of those rare places where the people and their passions matter much more than meeting shareholder expectations or corporate growth forecasts.

Trekitt strives to supply the best quality kit from the best brands for walkers, mountaineers, climbers and travellers so you can be assured of its performance whatever your adventure. We carefully select our range to provide kit that is fit for purpose, high performance, and as gear freaks ourselves, is the sort of stuff that excites us and we would buy personally. Our aim is to hold excellent stock levels of the kit we have selected; so the stock level you see on our website is the actual stock we hold in our shop in Hereford. All orders are processed in that shop, which usually involves someone running around like a loon grabbing stuff off the rails and shelves. We are here Monday to Saturday from 09:00 - 17:30, so if you have any questions about your requirements, or just want to talk to a fellow enthusiast about kit, give us a call.

    Over the years we have forged strong links with like-minded organisations and we strongly believe in supporting those who support others. Both Paul and Mark have been active members of Longtown Mountain Rescue Team and Trekitt is now the main sponsor of their annual fundraising event the "Big Black Mountain Challenge".     Retail Sales;

    Dick Trepte 1937-2010
The original founding father of Trekitt, and actual father of the two current directors.

He was a keen walker, leading walks all over the globe, particularly in Nepal, a country that he came to love dearly. He has passed on his enthusiasm for the mountains and the natural world to the business and we are all still very much aware of his great presence and influence.

Dick was a natural leader, sociable and great company; he loved nothing better than a pint of ale and the good company of mates after a day in the hills. He also liked to put something back, working as a voluntary warden in the Lake District, and as a walks leader for the Ramblers Association and HF Holidays.

Trekitt is Dick's legacy to us all.

    Paul Trepte
    Managing Director

I joined the family firm in 1989 and started working in the Abergavenny shop. I now look after most things Trekitt'y with an emphasis on the website and marketing. For the past 25 years I can honestly say that I have thoroughly enjoyed being involved with the outdoor industry with its friendly and many varied characters.

I started exploring the hills and mountains of the UK as a child; being dragged up Helvellyn by my Dad at eleven years old was my first experience of a proper mountain. This adventure ignited my passion for the outdoors and I have enjoyed the Worlds Mountains and special places on foot, under canvas, on various bikes, on the end of a rope, on skis, and even on the back of an elephant.

Being in the wild places of creation feeds my soul; even if it's just walking the dogs around my local woods in the Monnow Valley.

    Mark Trepte
    Commercial Director

I have been at Trekitt since 1986 and apart from keeping me in a job it has given me the chance to enjoy the world in many ways.

As an outdoor novice when I started, I have had a great time - Climbing and Mountain Marathon-ing in the nineties, I have gone on to Snowboarding and Mountain biking, which I still enjoy today. Added to this have been Fell-Running, Scrambling and Rock Climbing as well as good old fashioned Hill-Walking, all of this has fed my passion for work and this great business has also fed back into the sports I love. I have travelled extensively in India (mostly on a Royal Enfield), and summited Mt Elbrus in Russia a couple of years ago, this has ignited a late surge of desire for some Alpine Mountaineering before my legs give out.

I have recently moved to Kendal, so I can maximise my days off and of course conduct some thorough kit testing; there really is no better place to test waterproofs...!

I consider myself very lucky, and hope to stay this lucky for many years to come.

Chick Godsell (I don't answer to my real name!)
    E-commerce Operations Manager

I have been with Trekitt, doing many varied jobs, since 2003 and now I look after all our lovely internet customers and make sure all things internet'y run smoothly. I have always been into the outdoors and have tried my hand at most things including walking, climbing, caving, diving, archery and sailing. I studied outdoor pursuits at the local college and have volunteered as a leader for a charity called Fairbridge who helped inner city youth by getting them outdoors and doing stuff.

The pinnacle of my time with Trekitt was being the first female winner of the Outdoor Industry Retail Employee of the year award in 2009

    Dave Cassidy
    Buying and Training Manager

You might know me as that guy who works at Trekitt and calls everybody dude. You would be right; I've been working for Trekitt on and ... off for over thirteen years now, and it just keeps getting better. I have worked in most capacities for the company and am now the Retail Manager. In short I get to run the Hereford shop and look after all the staff there; I also help out with product ranging and buying. In my spare time I'm a bit of a jack of all trades. I like to bike, climb, walk and surf a bit when the opportunity arise. I'm always up for seeing new countries and experiencing good people.

    Steve Davies
    Buying and Stock Control Manager

I started working for Trekitt 2 years ago. My main responsibilities lie 'out the back', away from the shop floor, where I'm placing orders with suppliers, unpacking deliveries and keeping the numbers on our stock database in check. I'm also part of the Buying team choosing what the shop stocks.

Before working for Trekitt, I'd spent 7 years working as an Outdoor Instructor across the UK and France. So on the odd day when you can find me answering the phone or down on the shop floor, I normally have some good insider 1st hand information about any piece of kit you may have a question about. I'm a keen outdoor enthusiast and the majority of my spare time is spent outdoors. I tend to pick the activities I get up to, by checking out the weather conditions - Climbing or Bouldering on dry days, Kayaking on wet days and Mountain Biking or Mountaineering on everything in-between. Generally I'll manage to get out 3 nights a week after work and at least one day over the weekends. My usual hangouts and favourite places include the Forest of Dean, The Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia.

    Will Condie
    Website and Digital Marketing

I started working for Trekitt back in January 2013 on the shop floor. Having had experience in the outdoors industry where I taught people bushcraft and survival skills I understand what it is like to spend time outdoors for very long periods; often uncomfortably

I now help out with the website and digital marketing, basically I help put our stock online and write the descriptions whilst also finding fun new ways to share the Trekitt love.

I get out a lot with the other guys doing activities in the evenings, such as climbing, bouldering, kayaking as well as trips away to North Wales for overnight camps and scrambling.

    Nick Martin
    Sales and Internet Processing

I've always had a thing for the outdoors, from a young age spending all day exploring the countryside around the village I grew up in, to taking part in the Big Black Mountain Challenge.

As a child I was a scout and a member of my local Army Cadet Force and am now an Army Cadet Force adult instructor. I spent a short time in the British Army but left due to an injury.

I love to travel and have spent time living in Sao Paulo and Istanbul, as well as taking trips to Africa and many other places.

I believe in gaining new experiences and in the future I plan on doing lots more travelling!

    Brodie and Murphy

The "Biscuit Eating Team" is now sadly reduced to one, Brodie passed away in January 2017 and is now at rest in his favourite woods overlooking the Monnow Valley. Murphy, the big stupid looking one, still comes to work with Paul to keep him company and pesters him to go out for a walk at lunchtime to escape from the computer. Chuck a stick or a ball and he's happy.

    Harry Bradbury

I started off life roaming my local countryside as a "professional" den builder and general messer-upper of land. Together with my equally obsessed friend and the use of a quad bike we spent our days spinning about fields creating havoc and mess. I've since then abandoned that and progressed to Mountain Biking and Brakeless Street Trials. In my spare time I'm generally riding a bike of some description, up the mountains with my lunatic Spaniel or day dreaming of all the above.

My role within Trekitt mainly involve sales on the shop floor advising customers and as of late I now assist with a few social media aspects such as Instagram and Facebook.

    Brennen Page

When I am not outdoors my other passion is martial arts. I have been doing Tae Kwon Do since the age of 7 and hold a 5th Degree black belt. I am the chief instructor at both Hereford and Abergavenny clubs and teach 4 nights per week.

Prior to working at Trekitt I worked as an outdoor pursuits instructor for Taste for Adventure where I gained all of my experience in the great outdoors working with "The Stokes" family. I enjoy climbing and extreme dog walking, I love to ski at least once a year, and love the odd Canadian canoe trip down the River Wye.

    Ali White

I have grown up immersed in the outdoors from an early age. Taking part in the scouts and Sea cadets I eventually found myself working in the outdoor industry. After 5 years working in South Wales and the Italian Alps I have settled down back in Herefordshire and started working at Trekitt with the internet team.

The outdoors is still a large part of my life and I spend most of my spare time out and about in one form or another.

    Pam

After many years of spending most my disposable (and non-disposable) income at Trekitt, I was finally adopted into the Trekitt family in April 2016. I was given the responsibility for all goods inwards, which is great for me as I can now have a sneaky peek at all the shiny jackets as soon as they arrive.

When I'm not putting stock onto our system, I love nothing more than to explore the luscious Herefordshire countryside with Peggy the Dog, or whizzing around on my bike with the wind in my hair. Finally, when I want to truly escape the hustle and bustle (and the boys at the warehouse) a spot of camping is definitely my tonic of choice.

    Jamie

Until October 2016 I was working in the bicycle sales industry at another local independent retaierl. When I heard Trekitt were recruiting new team members I jumped at the chance to get my CV in as quick as possible.

The majority of my time is spent riding my ever-expanding fleet of bicycles from a variety of disciplines; Enduro, XC, downhill and road. This love of the outdoors grew from my early days of hooliganism alongside my fellow Trekitt accomplice, Harry.

My Job description states that I am here on the shop floor to advise and help customers make informed decisions regarding the kit they are after. However, due to my mean brew making capabilities, I spend a lot of time working closely with mugs.

    Saul

Trekitt is where I go to recharge my batteries, as strange as this may sound my other commitments require a different amount of care, concentration and skill that you'd expect when caring for and being a general handy man for the elderly.

When I'm not in not working, I will either be building or riding one of my many bikes, camping out in the woods doing my bushcrafty thing or just generally ambling around the local countryside taking in all that Mother Nature has to offer.

    Dom

Living in the shadow of the Catsback I have grown up with an affinity toward the outdoors. When I am not on the shop floor I can be found in various locations around Herefordshire, shooting, climbing, walking. Photography is also a passion of mine, so as you can imagine, I have plenty of picture of the Black Mountains.

When I'm not out n' about enjoying life, you can find me "getting my nerd on" constructing and painting little plastic models ready for battle.

    Duncan

    A.k.a. Slam Dunc the Funk

I'm a man of few words...

However, scratch away at the surface of this rugged broody façade and you will find the biggest rock fan ever. You guys might be thinking that I am talking about the music but you are sorely mistaken. When it comes to rocks, I love everything about them, climbing them, studying them and I have even been known to cuddle them at night.

But there is more to me than just rocks. I also enjoy tearing up the trails on my mountain bike or throwing an egg-shaped ball around a muddy grass pitch with 14 other guys, as we try to get past 15 other guys who are trying to stop us.

At Trekitt you will find me amongst the rails advising customers and helping them to make the right decision on what to buy for their latest adventure.
