What is the Atom SL?
The Atom SL is the lightest weight synthetically insulated jacket from Arcteryx. It's perfectly suited to cold, fast-paced mountain adventures like running and biking but also works well as an extra, light layer on chillier summer evenings.
What is the Atom SL made of?
Insulation: The Atom SL has 40g/m² of Coreloft Compact in the body to maintain core temperature during mid to high output activities. Coreloft is a synthetic insulation that is similar to Primaloft. However, it has been developed by Arc'teryx to be more durable. Not only is it more durable, but the synthetic fibres have also been siliconised to further increase breathability by reducing the fibres ability to hold onto moisture.
Outer Fabric: The outer is a combination of a tough 20 denier, 100% nylon fabric everywhere apart from the air permeable side panels and underarms. This is made from Torrent fabric that has an antimicrobial Polygiene treatment to avoid the build up of nasty smells and is also stretchy to give a low profile fit that improves the overall ventilation of this brilliant looking jacket.
What are the features?
The arms are lined with a 100% polyester mesh to help wick moisture away from your skin and to avoid that annoying feeling when the outer fabric starts to cling to damp skin. A low profile, non insulated hood adds protection from the wind without over heating and the No Slip Zip works like a series of speed bumps so it won't work itself undone so when you need to keep in more heat when needed. Then finally you have 2 zippered hand pockets, luxurious shaped stretch fleece cuffs and adjustable hem to seal you inside and trap more heat.
How does the Atom SL fit?
This garment has the Arc'teryx “Trim Fit”. Trim fitting garments share motion-friendly traits with the “Regular fit”, but are patterned with lower volume for reduced bulk. The trim fit is sized for a base layer and a trim synthetic or down filled mid-layer. Check out the link below for exact sizing measurements.
Where doe the Atom SL fit in the layering system?
The Atom SL is a lightly insulated jacket that works well as a stand-alone jacket on still, chilly summer nights, but can also be layered up under a shell in colder, damp conditions.
Summary
If you're looking for a jacket that will not only protect you from a mountain breeze on a chilly spring evening run but will also layer up well and look good no matter where you are, then look no further - The Atom SL will be your new best friend. We have all owned an Atom SL at some point in our Trekitt careers - Harry likes his over the top of a base layer whilst mountain biking in the Autumn. Hannah mostly uses hers as a mountain running jacket in the winter and Will finds his SL is the ideal 3 season stash-in-the-pack jacket just in case the cold winds pick up. This jacket really can do it all!
