For 2017 Exped have given their most comfortable sleeping mat a facelift, or more accurately, a more durable upper face fabric. The NEW Megamat features a nylon face fabric as opposed to the old polyester one, this means the new mat is now more durable and more abrasion resistant. It still feels super soft, slip resistant and backed by an Airblock PU film to guarantee leak-proof performance, even if humidity accumulates during inflation. Filled with ultra-lightweight open celled PU foam with horizontal air channels, Exped have managed to reduce weight without sacrificing thickness or comfort.
To inflate, simply open the inflate valve and allow the foam to rebound back to its original form, thus drawing air into the mat without you having to lift a finger. If you are like me and you prefer a slightly firm mattress, then a few pumps with the included mini-pump will do the trick. However, if after a few minutes you find that your bed is too firm, pressure can be fine-tuned by re-opening the inflation value and poking your finger inside whilst lay on the mat (a few gentle taps on the internal valve seal should do the trick). Once you have achieved your desired firmness, close the valve back up and it's off to sleep.
Exped have made things easier for you by increasing the size of the deflation value and updating the storage sack to allow for side entry. This makes pack down a lot quicker and a lot less faff.
Just like your sleeping bag, if you aren’t using the mat for some time we recommend that it's stored unrolled with the valves open (under a bed for instance) to ensure the internal foam retains its expansion. The welded 3D construction means that the MegaMat remains comfortable right up to the edge, so no matter how much you roll around you always be cosseted by warmth and luxury.
Most inflatable mats are straightforward to deflate and roll up and the Megamat is no different, just watch the video below for complete pack down instructions.
Finally, don't Forget to add the Universal Coupler Kit to your basket as the perfect answer for all of your couple's camping trip issues. I say all, what I actually mean is the single biggest problem. Which is, if you are on 2 separate mats how do you cuddle without falling down "the gap"? This kit will work with all Exped mats, even the MegaMat, however, it is not compatible with any Duo models (this is because any mat from Exped with Duo in its name is already built for 2 people).
