This is the answer to all your down related problems. This jacket has its baffles filled with Primaloft Gold Insulation Down Blend which is made up of 30% Primaloft gold and 70% 750 fill water resistant goose down. So it is safe to say that this jacket is not only super warm and packable, it also maintains its warmth during damper weather. However I still wouldn't advise you to wear it in a down pour as your outer layer, pop on your hard shell!
The Cold Forge is one of the best suited Belay jackets available. It will pack down nice and small thanks to the 70% down insulation, is extrememly warm for the weight, maintaining a consistent body temperature as you wait for your other climbing partner, has a highly wind and water resistant outer fabric to deal with light moisture and wind and features a helmet compatible, insulated hood to create a barrier of cosiness against the elements.
You're given two internal drop pockets to store gloves and climbing gear, two zipped hand warming pockets for when you've forgotten those gloves, low bulk stretch cuffs and an adjustable hem to keep as much warmth in as possible. Underarm gussets increase mobility and give you an extra degree of movement when climbing.
Black Diamond have also updated the fabric for this season, changing to a lighter-weight Pertex Quantum RipStop outer fabric. This makes the Cold Forge around 35g lighter (doesn't sound like a lot, however imagine yourself as an skinny alpinist or climber and it makes sense) as well as more compressible. A DWR (durable water repellant) finish is then added for futher water and wind resistancy.
