The membrane used in these trousers is the incredibly reliable, highly breathable and very durable 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro. The majority of the trouser has an insanely tough 80D Nylon face fabric, with 155D Nylon reinforcements in the high wear areas (like the seat and the inner, lower leg for extra abrasion resistance from rock and crampons). The inner lower leg is also reinforced with Keprotec, a Kevlar blend fabric, to further increase their abrasion resistance. Don't let the tough exterior fool you though, the trousers are incredibly light and supple for their level of durability, so they feel great on, whilst still offering optimal levels of protection.
As the trend with Arcteryx, the features of these trousers have been incredibly well thought out. The fully separating, 2-way, WaterTight zippers on either side of the trousers allow for easy removal over boots and crampons but also (teamed with the fact that the adjustable suspenders only attach to the front half of the trousers) allow you drop the seat of the trousers without having to remove the suspenders - meaning you can 'do your business' far quicker and easier, which is really important when the weather is terrible. The low bib (which sits much lower than your nipples to avoid chaffing) is elasticated through the waist to keep the cold and the snow out. To stop any ingress of snow and water into your boots the trousers feature tough 100D Cordura PowderCuffs with a lace hook to secure the trousers to your footwear. The trousers also feature two zippered pockets on the bib and a full-length fly-zipper with a popper attachment, which is easy to secure when wearing gloves.
The trousers fall into Arcteryx's 'Relaxed' Fit Group, which means that they are cut loosely through the waist, hip and thigh for a casual fit, whilst the e3D (ergonomic 3D) patterning provides an enhanced level of articulation and movement.
These elements come together to give you a pair of waterproof trousers that you actually don't mind wearing all day. They are comfortable, smart in their construction and damn sexy (which is something you can say for waterproof trousers very often). You'll be sat at home wishing for wet weather days!
