What is the Minimus Pull-On?

The Minimus Stretch Ultra Pull-On is a super lightweight, breathable, stretchy, packable and well-fitted shell for trail running and ultra light trips into the mountains. When stowed away, the Minimus is not much bigger than an apple and weighs just 174g, about the same as your other Apple (phone).

What is it made from?

Starting from the inside, Montane give you a surprisingly soft and pliable fabric which feels great next to skin but also glides easily over additional layers on colder days. In the middle sits a Pertex Shield membrane; this membrane is fully waterproof, fully windproof, highly packable and one of the most breathable options available, making it perfect for moving quickly in the mountains. The outer fabric is a 20 denier nylon and offers protection from general wear and tear whilst also packing down to a small size when not in use.

What are the features?

Being primarily designed for trail running, the feature list won't be extravagant, but all of it is necassary. Starting from the top, you get an adjustable hood with an elasticated tab at the back to pull the sides of the hood in closer during windy conditions, and a stiffened peak to prevent water dripping onto your face. A 1/2 length front zip rather than a full length alternative reduces weight and pack size, while a small zipped chest pocket stores a phone or snacks. This chest pocket also doubles up as a stuffsack and includes a small headphone port to internally route cables. Part elasticated cuffs and an adjustable hem seal out the foul weather.

How does it fit?

The Minimus features a moderately long length and a slim fit to reduce pack size and weight. The sleeves are nice and long and the whole jacket fits well with just a baselayer or with additional layers underneath on colder days.

Where does it fit in the layering system?

It's designed as an outer layer which is where it will be used 90% of the time. You can stick a synthetically insulated jacket over the top when you stop for lunch to offer additional warmth, but the Minimus works best as the layer on the outside of your layering system.

Summary

The Minimus Stretch Ultra Pull-On may well be a bit of a mouthful, but it's a brilliant jacket for fast and light adventures in the mountains or on the trails. The stretchy, breathable fabric makes wearing the jacket a joy, even in the most challenging conditions.

Care & Advice

Care and maintenance

To keep your outdoor clothing and equipment in tip top condition and performing to its maximum we recommend the use of Nikwax products. We have been using Nikwax products since day one (26th March 1986) and have found them to be totally reliable, dependable and effective. Today’s Nikwax treatments contain environmentally friendly elastic water-repellent polymers that bond to fabric fibres, leaving the spaces between open and breathable. These stretchy polymers are able to stretch and move with the fabric so they stay put for longer and work better.

Nikwax treatments will not change the look or feel of the fabric and they are all water based, environmentally safe, non-flammable and contain no nasty Fluorocarbons. Nikwax products can be used to clean, re-proof and revitalise all your outdoor technical clothing and equipment.

Waterproof breathable clothing has a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish applied to the face fabric during the manufacturing process. The DWR forces water to bead up and roll off the surface therefore preventing the fabric from absorbing moisture. If the outside of your jacket is soaked in a layer of cold water, the warm damp air within can’t escape and will condense on the inside. This makes the jacket feel cold clammy and can make you think that it’s leaking. The DWR finish is not permanent and needs to be maintained and revitalised to optimise performance.

This three layer waterproof jacket should be cleaned regularly with Nikwax Tech Wash; I wash my jacket about once a month, or more often if it gets really filthy. Regular washing with Tech Wash will maintain the DWR for longer and remove salts and oils that can contaminate the fabric, and it will keep your lovely jacket clean and smelling fresh. Washing can be done in a machine according to the manufacturers care guidelines (on the internal label). First clean out any detergent and conditioner residue from the machine dispenser and then add the required amount of Tech Wash and away you go. Hand washing is also suitable but be sure to rinse the garment well.

When you notice that rain/water is no longer beading up and rolling off it’s time to re-proof. Nikwax TX Direct will re-instate a long lasting DWR to completely rejuvenate your jacket. Re-proofing can also be done in the machine once a garment has been washed. Just add the TX-Direct and use the same programme you used for washing. You can also use the spray-on product on a damp garment that has just been washed.

You wouldn’t buy a Ferrari and never have it serviced, so make sure you regularly wash and re-proof your quality kit.

The product I bought was competitively priced. The video demonstration of the product assisted me in my decision to purchase the item and was very informative, as it showed all of the features and the fit. I chose "click and collect" which was an efficient and quick process. I would definitely shop here again.
