What is the Grym Evo Jacket?
The Grym Evo is a tough, waterproof and environmentally friendly jacket that is the ideal companion for long days in the mountains in less than favourable conditions. Alternatively, its sleek finish means it also looks great in more casual surroundings.
What is the Grym Evo made of?
The Grym Evo uses Proof Eco which is a tough 3-layer construction made from recycled Nylon. The outer face fabric is a rugged, big-square ripstop weave that is laminated to a microporous Polyurethane membrane with a tricot backer. the tricot backer feels great next to skin and doesn't get clammy when you're working hard and sweating underneath it. The Microporous membrane, as well as being completely waterproof (>15,000 mm Hydrostatic head) is also breathable, with a Moisture Vapour Transfer Rate (MVTR) of 15,000 g/m² /24h. All of the seams are ultrasonically-welded and sit flat to the jacket to protect against chafing and to minimise bulk. The whole jacket is then treated with a fluorocarbon-free DWR to protect from water and dirt.
What are the features?
The hood of the jacket is three-way adjustable and has a reinforced peak; this allows for an accurate and snug fit even in strong winds. Storage wise, the jacket has two storm hand pockets with snap buttons. Due to the placement of these pockets, they are very effective at keeping water out in all but the worst conditions. We do, however, recommend storing electronics, like your phone, in a drybag in your pack when the weather is at its worst. The jacket also had a zippered chest pocket that is a great place to stash your compass. Pit zips under the arms allow you to dump excess heat when you are working hard.
How does the Grym Evo fit?
The Grym Evo is slightly squarer in it's fit than some other jackets - this allows for easy layering in chillier conditions. The sleeves are also articulated to allow for unhindered movement and the jacket has a drop hem in the rear to protect your lower back when you are scrambling or bending over.
Where does the Grym Evo fit in the layering system?
The Grym Evo is primarily designed as an outer shell, more commonly referred to as a hard shell; which means it works well to protect you from strong winds on cold days, right up to torrential downpours.
Summary
The Grym Evo will be your go-to jacket no matter if you are heading out the door to climb mountains, stand on the side of a rugby pitch or heading to the pub with your friends. We've put it in the range because we love the classic, sleek design and the top-notch environmental credentials of the Grym Evo. It's a jacket that holds up to the standards that we've come to expect from Haglofs.
