What is the UltraLight Insulated Mat?
The UltraLight Insulated Mat is designed to offer exceptional comfort and warmth without the weight to match. Weighing just 480g and packing down to around the same size as a 500ml water bottle, you'll barely notice it in your pack.
What is it made of?
Starting from the inside, Sea to Summit insulate the mat with Thermolite. Thermolite is a synthetic material which prevents convective heat loss between your body and the ground, boosting your overall warmth. Sea to Summit take this insulation one step further, placing an antimicrobian treatment inside the insulation to extend its lifespan. Layered above this is an Exkin Platinum fabric which reflects radiant heat loss back to you. Surrounding all this clever tech is a 30/40D nylon fabric which protects the insulation and repels light moisture on humid nights.
What is the construction used in the mat?
Unlike your typical mat which features a flat or ridged surface, the UltraLight features Air Sprung Cells which are shaped like hundreds of little tennis balls. This clever construction allows the mat to pack down to a miniscule size yet offers an exceptional amount of warmth relative to its weight. This design is also arguably more comfortable than your standard flat mat as the gap between each Sprung Cell allows your body to sink into the mat.
What are the features?
Features wise, you get a good quality stuffsack for compact transportation, a repair kit containing six patches for repairs while you're out and about and lastly a spare silicone valve flap.
Summary
The UltraLight is a super light mat which doesn't compromise on warmth or comfort. An R-value of 3.3 allows the mat to be used for 3/4 season use and will actually allow you to take a lighter weight sleeping bag during warmer months.
