What is the Alpine Pro Jacket?
Featuring just about every feature you could ask for in a hardshell and so much more, the Alpine Pro is designed to offer fortress-like protection when the weather turns against you. If you're in the mountains, the Alpine Pro is at home.
What is it made of?
Starting with the outer fabric, Montane equip the Alpine Pro with a tough 40D nylon to deal with the abuse that tough mountain routes have to offer. Despite it's gnarly intentions, we were impressed how smooth and comfortable it felt. Underneath this, a Gore-Tex Pro membrane provides total protection from the elements whilst allowing your sweat to escape. Gore-Tex Pro is the toughest, most breathable membrane Gore produce (and pretty much the toughest of any outdoor membrane altogether), making it perfect for this mountain-inspired jacket. Underneath the membrane lies a smooth nylon fabric which glides nicely over additional layers during colder months of the year.
What are the features?
As mentioned earlier, this do-it-all jacket contains just about every feature you could possibly ask for when purchasing a mountain jacket. Starting at the top, you get a roll-away, climbing helmet compatible hood with a stiffened peak to keep water dripping down the front of the jacket. Moving down, articulated arms give you a full range of motion without raising the hem of the jacket up, while a tall collar protects your neck when the hood is rolled away. A two-way YKK zip allows you to fit the jacket over a bulky climbing harness, ventilate when working hard or simply to answer the call of nature, while zips under the arms of the jacket increase ventilation even further without introducing moisture into the jacket. Lower down, you get two large pockets on the front of the jacket which will fit a standard OS map and are placed above where a climbing harness or rucksack hipbelt would sit. While we're on pockets, you get another large chest pocket and an internal stretch mesh pocket designed for goggles. We warned you about its long feature list!
How does it fit?
The Alpine Pro features a long, slim fit which will suit most climbers/mountaineers fairly well. A dropped hem adds greater coverage if you're over 6ft, while articulated arms prevent the hem of the jacket lifting up while reaching above your head for holds.
