What are the Alpine Pro Pants?
Featuring just about every feature you could ask for in a pair of hardshell trousers and so much more, the Alpine Pro Pants are designed to offer fortress-like protection when the weather turns against you.
What is it made of?
Starting with the outer fabric, Montane equip the Alpine Pro's with a tough 40D nylon to deal with the abuse that tough mountain routes have to offer. 70D reinforcements are added to high-wear areas such as the seat and knees, while the instep features a durable ripstop nylon for extra durability. Despite their gnarly intentions, we were impressed how smooth and comfortable they felt. Underneath this, a Gore-Tex Pro membrane provides total protection from the elements whilst allowing your sweat to escape. Gore-Tex Pro is the toughest, most breathable membrane Gore produce (and pretty much the longest lasting of any outdoor membrane altogether), making it perfect for these mountain-inspired trousers. Underneath the membrane lies a smooth nylon fabric which glides nicely over additional layers during colder months of the year.
What are the features?
Durability is a primary concern with these trousers, so Montane have increased the stitch count from the industry standard of 8 to a far higher 13. Breathability is another important factor, so all seam taping has been reduced to 3mm, reducing weight and removing unnecessary non-breathable tape where it's not needed. A rear elasticated waistband provides a closer fit, while velcro tabs allow you to fine-tune the waist. Full-length side zips make getting the trousers on and off a doddle and an internal storm flap behind the side zips provides extra weather-resistance. The lower legs can be adjusted to fit over large mountaineering boots as well as smaller alternatives thanks to two zips and an additional drawcord. Lastly, the braces are removable if you'd rather not use them.
How does it fit?
The Alpine Pro's feature a fit which is roomy enough for additional layers, yet not baggy in warmer conditions. The knees are articulated and the crotch is gusseted for a greater range of movement and increased comfort.
