What is the Greenland No.1 Down jacket?
If we had to choose just one jacket to showcase the highest quality and bordering obsessive levels of detail, the Greenland No.1 would be that jacket. The Greenland No.1 sits in Fjallraven's 'numbers collection', a carefully chosen selection of products which feature the least amount of environmental harm, will last a lifetime of use and look brilliant at the same time.
What is it made of?
Insulation: Starting from the inside-out, the Greenland No.1 is insulated with 100g of the highest quality goose down to keep you warm and toasy when the temperature drops. This down comes from birds that haven't been live plucked and have lived a free-range existence; therefore, although it sounds odd, it creates a higher quality insulation and will insulate you more effectively. Fjallraven have continued their theme of obsessive detail to the inside of the jacket too. A downproof Pertex Quantum fabric lines the entire inner of the jacket and prevents down from shuffling its way through. It's also highly breathable and will aid moisture management if you kick up a bit of a sweat.
Outer fabric: Encapsulating all this super high quality down is Fjallraven's own Recycled Polyester and Organic Cotton mix fabric (G-1000 Eco). This eco fabric is far more environmentally friendly than standard Polyester and Cotton fabrics yet features the same durability and weather resistance. The great thing about this fabric is that you control how breathable and water resistant the jacket is. If you require the highest level of breathability, leave the jacket unwaxed and unproofed. If you're using the No.1 in some foul conditions and need a bit more weather resistance, give the jacket a wax using a hairdryer or an iron and watch the water repel off. Although while waxed the No.1 will be less breathable, it will allow the jacket to be completely windproof and highly water resistant for the worst conditions.
What are the features?
Vegetable tanned leather strips are placed around the cuffs and hood, while a large leather Fjallraven badge finishes this Scandinavian piece of artwork off. Lastly, two hand pockets and two bellows pockets take items such as a phone, keys or compass.
How does it fit?
The Greenland No.1 features an average length with plenty of room in the shoulders and chest. It isn't a technical piece, therefore you may find that it sits a little looser than some of their more technical products.
Where does it fit in the layering system?
As an everyday/easy walking jacket, it'll suit best as an outer layer in cold, dry conditions. If it begins to rain heavily, you're able to stick a shell over the top without an issue.
