What is the Farpoint Wheels?
Based on the legendary Farpoint, this new variation combines all the features we know and love from the original bag and adds some sturdy wheels, a useful grab handle and a host of clever pockets. This makes it perfect for longer travels with more weight as you've got the option to either pull it along or sling it onto your back.
What is it made of?
The entire bag is made from a mix of two fabrics; a super tough 500D Nylon Packcloth and a 210D High Tenacity Nylon. The majority of the bag is made from the 500D Nylon, while the front of the bag gets the 210D Nylon to keep the weight to a minimum. Both of these fabrics are more than tough enough for travel use and are designed to take a beating. A durable water repellent coating has also been added to resist light rain if you happen to get caught out. Please note, this does not make it waterproof, only water resistant.
What is the backsystem?
This is where it really differs from the standard Farpoint. In all honesty, the original Farpoint backsystem is incredibly comfortable, however this Wheeled variant takes it a step further; it takes inspiration from Osprey's fully-fledged trekking bags and incorporates this technology into the backsystem on the Wheels. It features a suspended mesh which sits away from the rest of the pack, meaning there is constant airflow behind your back. This is not only incredibly comfortable as the bag's contents aren't jabbing you, but also far more breathable in hotter climates.
The shoulder straps are fully padded and lined with a breathable mesh for increased comfort. You also get an adjustable sternum strap with built in safety whistle. Moving down, lightweight, flexible hipbelt effectively transfers the weight of the bag through your hips for maximum comfort and support.
What are the features?
Starting with the most obvious feature, the Farpoint Wheels features two sturdy, low-profile wheels which allow you to effortlessly drag the Farpoint along when you've got too much weight to carry on your back. An extendable 'T' handle prevents you getting an achy back from having to bend down to drag the bag all day. A huge U-Zip opening on the front of the bag allows you to fully open the Farpoint up like a duffel; this makes it incredibly easy to find all of your kit without emptying anything out. The zips for this main compartment can be locked for peace of mind.
Once you're inside the bag, your kit can be secured down with compression wings; this not only prevents kit sloshing about but also brings the weight closer to your back when carrying the Farpoint like a rucksack. On the underside of the lid there's a large mesh pocket which can be used to store dirty clothes, towels and accessories. If we close this main compartment and head to the outer of the bag again, you get another pocket on the top of the Farpoint which is about the right size for a large washbag. Just below this, another sleeve-like pocket can be used to store an A4 folder or laptop (laptop will need a case as this pocket isn't padded). Moving down, two mesh water bottle pockets store, you guessed it, water bottles! The StraightJacket compression system across the front of the pack really helps to keep the load under control when trekking or can compress the pack if it's not fully laden.
If that wasn't enough storage for you, on each shoulder strap you'll find the female half of a buckle; this allows you to easily attach an Osprey Daylite Travel pack to create extra kangaroo-pouch style storage. There are also cord loops down the front of the pack, if you want to attach a Daylite or Daylite Plus pack there instead, or as well.
Just to top it off, you also get two padded grab handles, loads of lash-points for added bits and bobs and some tough rubber feet to allow the bag to stand up by itself when not being pulled along.
