What is the Gamma SL Hoody?
The Arc’teryx Women’s Gamma SL Hoody is a lightweight, stretchy, comfortable and weather-resistant softshell which can be used for virtually any outdoor activity. The brilliant fit, versatile fabric and array of useful features makes it suitable for walking, trekking, scrambling, climbing, everyday... the list goes on!
What is it made of?
The Gamma is made from 87% nylon and 13% elastane; Arc'teryx call it Fortius DW. As mentioned above, Fortius is super stretchy, durable, comfortable next to skin, water resistant and wind resistant, making it one of the most versatile fabrics available for spring/summer use. It also resists abrasion exceptionally well, making it the ideal scrambling or climbing piece in changeable conditions.
What are the features?
Starting at the top, an adjustable, helmet-compatible StormHood provides extra protection and fits nicely over a helmet when climbing or scrambling, yet can be cinched down to fit your head without a helmet. Two zipped hand pockets store everyday essentials and sit up out of the way of a harness or hip belt on a rucksack so you don’t get any bits that dig in. To further seal out the elements the Gamma SL has low profile elasticated cuffs that sit nicely under gloves and an adjustable hem draw cord that seals in warmth around your waist.
How does it fit?
The Gamma SL features a slim yet unrestrictive fit. It also features a drop hem - a longer cut at the back so your lower back is still protected when you bend over or when your scrambling. It’s cut to fit a female body, so whilst it is a ‘trim’ fit, it still allows enough room to fit around curves.
Where does it fit in the layering system?
The Gamma is primarily designed to provide protection as an outer layer, however you can stick an insulated jacket over the top when stationary to provide extra warmth.
