What is the Kaipak Jacket?
Much like the Kaipak backpack from Fjallraven, the jacket takes the same characteristics and places them inside one of the toughest outdoor jackets available. Made using an eco-friendly fabric and featuring stretchy panels of fabric in high tension areas, the Kaipak is not only absurdly tough but comfortable as well.
What is it made of?
The bulk of the jacket is made from Fjallraven's own G-1000 Eco fabric, an ultra durable mix of recycled polyester and organic cotton. These fabrics are so tightly knit that even without treatment, it is virtually windproof. The Kaipak comes pre-waxed from Fjallraven with their Greenland Wax, so you've also got a water resistant barrier if you happen to get caught out. If you do happen to get soaking wet, this fabric also dries exceptionally quickly. To make the application of wax more effective, there are no seams over the shoulders (where you'll encounter the most rain).
In areas which don't require the same level of durability such as the underarms, Fjallraven place a super stretchy nylon/elastane mix; this increases freedom of movement and breathability substantially.
What are the features?
Starting at the top, you've got an adjustable hood with a protective brim to keep the rain off your face. Moving down, a two-way front zip allows you to ventilate effectively and even features buttons behind in the unlikely event that the zip happens to break. Pockets wise, you've got one zipped chest pocket, two zipped hand pockets, one internal zipped pocket and two large dump pockets which are ideal for gloves, hats or other bulky items. Lastly, a drawcord on the hem and velcro cuffs seal in the warmth.
How does it fit?
The Kaipak features Fjallraven's 'regular' fit, meaning there is enough room underneath for layers in cold conditions, yet it doesn't feel big and baggy when you've just got a baselayer or t-shirt underneath. The arms and body are fairly long and there's plenty of articulation thanks to those stretchy panels under the arms.
