What is the Nordic Mimic Hood?
The Nordic Mimic is a lightweight yet ultra-warm insulated jacket featuring three different forms of insulation for optimum performance and a PROOF membrane for total waterproof protection in key wear areas. This technical insulation combined with the PROOF membrane makes the Nordic Mimic perfect for virtually any mountain activity.
What is it made of?
Insulation: Haglofs have combined three different forms of insulation to provide the highest level of performance: Mimic Platinum Ultracluster Graphene, PrimaLoft Gold with Cross Core technology and recycled polyester.
Mimic Platinum is a fully synthetic insulation designed to mimic the warmth characteristics of down. Rather than being a big sheet of insulation, it's in little clusters like down; this means it traps exceptional amounts of warmth but also packs down to a fraction of its original size and weighs very little. If it gets wet, it'll dry quickly and will still provide warmth (unlike down). Graphene is then added to evenly disperse your body heat around the jacket, reducing heat-loss through various areas of the jacket. As well as evenly dispersing heat, it allows the jacket to insulate you far faster than a conventional alternative.
PrimaLoft Gold is then used for additional warmth around the chest area. PrimaLoft, like Mimic Platinum, is synthetic, however it's placed into the jacket as a sheet, providing bucket loads of warmth and allowing the jacket to warm up exceptionally quickly. Now, onto the 'Cross Core' part (get ready for some nerdiness). Cross Core, in simple terms, mixes the already proven and incredibly high performing PrimaLoft synthetic insulation with Aerogel. Originally developed and used by NASA in their aeronautical applications, Aerogel is made from 95% air and is the lightest solid material known to man. This incredible material boosts the warmth of the jacket substantially without adding more than a few grams of weight.
Fabrics: Sitting on the outside of the Nordic Mimic is a Pertex Quantum fabric — this is a super lightweight yet impressively tough and weather-resistant fabric designed to perfectly balance durability and weight.
Underneath this, Haglofs use their own PROOF membrane in the hood, shoulders and chest to provide total waterproof and windproof protection where you'll encounter heavy rain. As well as providing complete weather protection in these areas, PROOF is made using recycled materials and is Bluesign approved; win win.
To increase breathability and flexibility, Haglofs have placed their FlexAble fleece fabric down each side of the jacket.
What are its features?
Most of the features lie in the mind-boggling selection of fabrics and insulation, but there are some useful creature comforts. Up top, you've got an insulated and adjustable hood to provide extra warmth when stationary. Storage is taken care of by two zipped chest pockets which sit away from your harness line, meaning you can still access your stuff while wearing a climbing harness or rucksack hipbelt. Articulated sleeves allow total freedom of movement while climbing or using walking poles, while elasticated cuffs and an adjustable hem seal in warmth.
Where does it fit in the layering system?
Thanks to the synthetic insulation and waterproof hood/shoulders/chest, the Nordic Mimic works best as an outer layer in changeable conditions.
