Nikwax Down Proof is designed to add water repellency to both the outer fabric and the down filling of outdoor clothing and equipment. Why? Well, if the face fabric of your down jacket/sleeping bag gets wet, it dramatically reduces breathability and becomes very heavy. You know what its like the first time you go out in the rain with a new jacket, the water beads up and rolls off. Then, after some time, this stops happening and your jacket gets all soggy and heavy and feels clammy inside. We call this wetting out.
Down Proof helps to maintain the natural "loft" of the down clusters to ensure maximum insulation and minimal wetting out/clamminess, as damp or wet non-treated down is virtually useless. Used regularly, it will prolong the life of garments and enhance performance.
