The sensor requires less electricity to achieve its desired temperature if the sleeping mat has plenty of insulation. However, if the mat has almost no insulation, the heat from the plates will escape, requiring more power and taking longer. Scientists use various technical terms to determine the R-Value of a sleeping mat, which indicates its level of insulation. This value is simplified for easy understanding.
