What is the Rab Storm Mitt?
Rab's Storm mitts are warm, waterproof and great for all year round cold, wet weather use. Featuring a soft fleece lining and a goat leather palm, they're both tough and exceptionally comfortable.
What are the mitts made of?
Fabrics: The storm mitts feature a tough nylon outer fabric to deal with the abuse that the mountains and trails have to offer, while a goat leather palm increases abrasion resistance even further when handling rope and tools. Underneath this, you get a completely waterproof Porelle Dry membrane to ensure your hands stay completely dry in the worst conditions.
Although these are mitts, the inside is divided into what feels like a glove (your fingers each have their own fleecy pocket) to increase warmth and comfort. The fleece lining wicks away sweat and keeps your hands even warmer in combination with the insulation below.
Insulation: Beneath the tough outer layers lies a warm Pyrotec insulation; this insulation is compressible, durable, lofts brilliantly and is warm even when wet. This insulation combined with the waterproof membrane and tough goat leather palm ensures comfort, warmth and durability for all year round use.
What are the features?
Aside from the tough shell and warm inner, the Storm mitts pack quite a few little extra features. On the back of the thumb you'll find a soft patch of fabric to wipe your nose with (really useful in super cold conditions when handling tools), while a single-handed drawcord cuff closure seals out the weather. A little loop on the lower of the cuffs allow you to hand them from your harness when not in use, or to air out if you've been sweating prefusely during the day.
Summary
These mitts are brilliant value for the versatility they offer; use them for mountaineering, trekking, general walking or just everyday use in cold environments.
