What is the Rime Light IN Flex?
A quick explanation of the name before we begin; Mammut already produce the Rime, this is a lighter version of that jacket which makes it perfect for use as either a midlayer or outer layer. IN stands for insulated, while the flex part relates to how stretchy and comfortable the outer fabric is. Trust us, when you put this jacket on, you won't want to take it off — it's as comfortable as an everyday hoody yet technical enough for alpine climbing.
What is it made of?
Outer fabric: The outer fabric used is Quantum Air, courtesy of Pertex. Quantum Air is designed to offer far higher levels of breathability than your traditional outer fabric by allowing a small amount of wind to pass through, constantly replacing a bit of the warm air inside the jacket with cooler air from outside. When you're working hard, this massively increases breathability, yet still offers good water resistance and durability. Due to the fantastic breathability, the Rime can be used as a midlayer with a shell over the top. As if this wasn't enough, polyester fleece side panels increase breathability even further and give the Rime added stretch for active use.
Insulation: Mammut's own Ajungilak OTI Stretch insulation is used throughout the jacket. As the name gives away, this is a stretchy insulation which perfectly compliments the stretchy outer fabric. Ajungilak is fully synthetic, so if it happens to get wet, it'll still provide warmth and protection.
Inner fabric: Finally, a lightweight nylon is used for the inner fabric, sliding easily over other layers and providing a soft surface for your skin to sit against if you're just wearing a baselayer.
What are the features?
You've got two front pockets which sit above the hips to avoid getting in the way of a harness or rucksack hipbelt, an elasticated hem and cuffs to trap warmth inside and a helmet-compatible hood which can be adjusted vertically and horizontally. The drawcords on the hood are large enough that they're easily adjustable with bulky gloves or mittens on.
A clever feature of a lot of Mammut jackets is their Easy Combine system. The jacket features loops in various places so you can attach an outer layer to the Rime, making it an all-in-one.
How does it fit?
The Rime features an athletic fit, and from experience fits more snugly than your average insulated jacket. If you're unsure of your size, use the sizing chart in 'sizing information' below.
Where does it fit in the layering system?
It can either be used as a midlayer with a shell over the top or an outer layer when the weather is on your side or when you need maximum breathability.
