What is the Women’s Kinetic Alpine 2.0?The Kinetic Alpine has been used and loved by Trekitt for years – the New 2.0 features updated materials and an improved fit to make this classic even better. The Kinetic Alpine 2.0 is a very unique creature; it takes the softness, stretchiness and breathability of a softshell, and the waterproof capabilities of a hard shell to create a jacket halfway between the two. It's perfect for use in the same situations as you'd normally use a softshell, but where the weather may be a little more changeable.
What is the Kinetic Alpine made from?The Kinetic uses Rab's own Proflex fabric. A massive update to the Kinetic 2.0 is that the Proflex is now Recycled! This fabric is stretchy, breathable, lightweight and completely waterproof; this makes it ideal for a wide range of mountain activities thanks to its incredible comfort and weather protection. Despite its waterproof capabilities, this outer fabric feels more like a traditional softshell and is exceptionally comfortable next to skin.
Rab have cleverly increased the durability of this fabric by reinforcing the high wear areas such as the shoulders, arms, and hood with a woven stretch polyamide. Inside the jacket, a soft knitted fabric sits next to skin and actively wicks away sweat when you're working hard.
What are the Kinetics’ features?Starting up top, Rab give the Kinetic a helmet compatible hood with a stiffened peak to keep the worst of the rain off your face. The hood has front and rear adjusters so you can easily take out the excess You get a 2-way YKK aquaguard centre front zip that allows easy access to a climbing harness or allows for extra ventilation when you’re working hard.
Lower down, you get two A-line pockets that feature YKK Aquaguard zips. These pockets are placed higher to avoid a harness or rucksack hipbelt, while an internal zipped security pocket stores valuables such as a wallet or phone. To seal out the elements Rab give you two concealed hem adjusters and velcro adjustable cuffs.
How does the Kinetic Alpine fit?The fit in the new Kinetic Alpine has also had a massive update – previous generation featured Rab’s slim fit, which in practice was a bit too slim if you wanted to layer up underneath it. The Kinetic 2.0 now features Rabs Women’s Regular Fit, which is much more generous so you can easily layer up underneath it, without creating excess material that flaps around in the wind. This also means that the Kinetic now suits a wider range of body types – so if you hips or you bust are a bit bigger, then the improved fit will suit you much better.
Where does it fit in the layering system?The Kinetic Alpine is designed to be worn in the same instances as a softshell, therefore it works best as an outer layer, however it can also be over-layered when static (i.e, slip an insulated jacket over the top when having lunch to stay nice and toasty).
Although this isn't designed to replace a hardshell in extreme conditions, it does provide greater weather protection when you need the performance of a softshell with the waterproof capabilities of a hardshell. It's exceptionally stretchy, comfortable and breathable, making it one of the most versatile jackets in your kit cupboard.
