What are the Acrux TR GTX's?
The Acrux TR's are designed to offer outstanding comfort, support, durability, abrasion resistance and reliability without weighing you down with bulky, clammy, uncomfortable fabrics. They're perfect for technical, multi-day trekking over varying terrain.
How are they constructed?
Upper: The uppers are made from the rather super SuperFabric. This fabric is abrasion resistant, highly durable, stain resistant, slash resistant, water resistant, quick drying and more breathable than your conventional nylon. How, you may ask? It's created by taking a piece of fabric and infusing it with tiny, hard guard plates to create almost an 'armour' for the fabric. Each of these plates have small gaps between them, so the fabric remains flexible and breathable yet tough as nails. As if this wasn't enough, a 3D moulded rubber toe cap provides extra protection for harsh scrapes and general abuse.
Midsole: If you're unfamiliar with the term 'midsole', it's the part of the boot that provides the cushioning and rigidity. The Acrux features an injected EVA midsole which delivers longlasting cushioning and support for long days out on demanding trails.
Membrane: A Gore-Tex membrane sits underneath the outer fabric and provides a barrier against water; an especially useful feature in the wetter months of the year.
Footbed: A 4mm thick Ortholite 3D footbed provides a comfortable, soft and supportive platform for your foot to sit on. Unlike traditional footbeds in less-advanced footwear which are relatively flat, Ortholite footbeds feature support and cushioning in areas of your foot which require it.
Outsole: A Vibram Megagrip sole unit takes care of the grip. Megagrip is one of the softest compounds of rubber found on a boot, ensuring grip levels are kept high on various surfaces, wet or dry. Deep lugs on the heel dig into the ground when descending, while a flat patch of rubber on the front of the Acrux increases the accuracy of the boot on small ledges.
What are the features?
99% of the features are listed above, however there are a few more little things we haven't mentioned. D-shaped loops lock the lace into place and prevent the boot losing tension when lacing up, while a thick tongue and flexible collar keep your foot comfortable yet secure without cutting off your blood supply. Other than that, you just get a few nice Arc'teryx logos dotted around!
How do they fit?
They feature a notoriously 'average' fit, including an average/high volume, an average width and a length which should match up with most other reputable brands (I.e, a UK 8 in a Salomon boot will be virtually the same). Getting sizing right online can be tricky, so we'd recommend scrolling down to our 'Care and Advice' section which contains some useful tips regarding boot fitting.
