What is the G5 Evo?
The G5 Evo has been developed with Alpinists and is one of the most technically advanced high-altitude mountaineering boots. They’ve been meticulously designed to provide maximum warmth and protection in sub-zero temperatures. The G5 is an ultra technical, stiff, incredibly water resistant and quick drying boot designed for high altitude mountaineering and working outside in freezing temperatures. A layer of insulation keeps you warm while tough fabrics repel water and abrasion.
What is it made of?
There are a few layers to the G5 Evo boots to optimise the insulation properties whilst also allowing the boot to be tailored to your fit and adventure. We’ll break these down layer by layer:
Gaiter: This is the first layer you see when you’re looking at the boot. The Gaiter is made using a water-repellent Cordura Fabric. It has exceptionally high abrasion resistance and is welded to the boots with Ultrasonic Welding technology. The water-repellent inner gusset internal thermo-taping helps protect from water ingress and heat loss.
Inner Shell: The inner shell is constructed with 4 layers. First there is a water-repellent Cordura fabric, followed by an aluminium layer that reflects heat back to the foot, then a polyethylene insulating barrier and finally a Gore-Tex Infinium Thermium layer. The thin Gore-Tex Infinium Thermium doesn’t add any extra volume and is strategically placed in the toe area. It offers the ideal thermal balance to keep the feet warm, even in extremely cold conditions. It is a high-performance non-waterproof technology that improves comfort and protection
Removable sockliner: Keep it in when you’re ice climbing in the Himalayas, and pop it out when you’re gulley bashing in lower-level, warmer conditions The inner layer next to your foot is a Thermal 'bootie' to insulate you from freezing temperatures.
Footbed: The 3mm thick ‘HoneyComb’ Carbon insulated footbed with Gore-Tex Infinium Thermium technology has been designed to avoid heat loss through the bottom of the boot.
Midsole: The Midsole is a 2 mm polyurethane with differentiated thickness at the toe and heel for crampon attachment.
Sole: Keeping you planted is Vibram's Matterhorn sole with Impact Brake System lugs. A series of differently sized lugs dig into the ground while descending to give you confidence in almost all conditions.
What are the features?
When you unzip the main gaiter you’ll find the Double Boa Fit System. It sits on the outside of the Inner shell and allows you to adjust the fit via two anchoring points throughout the lower part of the booth without having to fiddle with laces. This allows you to tighten and loosen your boots without having to take you gloves off – important when you’re in sub-zero conditions.
