What are the Salomon Wildcross 2 GTX's?
Designed for muddy, soft conditions, the Wildcross is a waterproof trail running shoe that's perfect for autumn/winter use here in the UK. With a medium amount of cushioning, a neutral fit and a lightweight chassis, this shoe should suit just about everyone.
What are they made of?
Upper: The uppers are made using a mixture of mesh-like materials and tough synthetic rubber. This mesh-like material is used over the top of the toes and in areas less prone to abuse, while the tough rubbery fabric is used lower down. Both the heel and toe have rubber reinforcements to deal with general trail abuse.
Membrane: Underneath this, you'll find a fully waterproof Gore-Tex membrane, keeping your feet dry and protected in wet and wild conditions.
Outsole: Providing grip in the Wildcross' is a Contagrip outsole. This is an aggressively lugged sole unit designed for wet, loose terrain. The lugs are widely spaced apart to self-clean as you move and are made of a soft compound to keep you planted in our soggy countryside. Bear in mind that this soft compound means they'll wear out faster on roads.
What are their features? You'll notice on the side of the shoe it says 'SensiFit' — this cradles the foot from the midsole to the lacing system, providing a secure, snug, and virtually customized fit all around the foot. Another useful feature present on most Salomon running shoes is their Quicklace system. This is a minimalistic and strong lace for one-pull tightening. Easy-on, easy-off. Once tightened the lace can then be rolled up and stashed in the lace pocket on the tongue of the shoe.
