What is the Via Jaws 10?
The Via Jaws is unlike any other trail running pack we've ever had the pleasure to use thanks to its sheer attention to detail, innovative design features and overall comfort. It's primarily designed as a pack you can wear into the mountains with the intention to carry out a run and a walk on the same day (fastpacking). Alternatively it's a brilliant ultra-lightweight (just 357g) daypack for runners in the winter and walkers in the summer.
What is it made from?
The main bulk of the pack has been constructed from Montane's Raptor UL fabric; a 100 denier nylon which is super tough, super light and weather resistant. The entire backsystem is made using a Contact Flyte Mesh Air fabric (a fancy name for super breathable, super comfortable mesh), but more onto that below.
What is the backsystem?
The backsystem on the Jaws isn't quite like your traditional pack, it feels a little more like a baby monkey clinging to your back who is refusing to move. The thin yet wide mesh shoulder straps spread the weight out evenly over your shoulders, while the flexible mesh lined back panel wraps around your body for a secure fit. The main fastening belt is made from what looks like a car seat belt, but in actual fact is an incredibly stretchy elastane strip which simply clips onto the opposing shoulder strap. A permanent Polygiene coating is then applied to the entire backsystem to limit the amount of odour build up over time.
What are the features?
The Jaws is pretty feature packed, so lets start with pockets. You get an internal sleeve for a hydration system, two bottle pockets on the main belt which are easily accessible when wearing the pack, another bottle pocket on the right shoulder strap, a zipped pocket just above that, another zipped pocket on the alternate strap, and the main compartment for the rest of your kit. Moving onto additional features, you've got pole attachment points, external bungee cords to attach extra gear and a removeable whistle.
Summary
This stunning pack is perfect for those who aren't set out to carry large, heavy loads, but would rather pack just the essentials to travel fast and light through the mountains. Weighing just 357g, it weighs about the same as a standard can of soup and can be stripped back to reduce the weight even further.
