What is the Freescape Lite 26?
The Freescape Lite is designed primarily for ski mountaineering, and as such it's absolutely loaded with features to make life in the mountains more enjoyable. It's ultra-tough, features a ventilated backsystem and can be stripped back to reduce the overall weight, but more about that later.
What is it made of?
The main bulk of the pack is made from a 100D polyester ripstop fabric, while the base uses an almost ridiculous 630D polyester. This makes the pack light enough for fast mountain use yet tough enough to deal with regular abrasion.
Which backsystem does it use?
Compared to a trekking pack, the backsystem on the Freescape is fairly simple. It features a hardwearing yet lightweight padded material on the shoulders and lower back to offer comfort and support, while the hipbelt and shoulder straps use a thinner and wider material to effectively take the load of the pack. Both of these materials are designed to repel snow/moisture
An adjustable sternum strap keeps the pack close to you if you're not using the hipbelt and a selection of stabilising straps pull the weight of the pack closer to your back.
What are its features?
Starting with storage options, you've got a zipped mesh pocket on the hipbelt, a phone pocket on the side of the pack, a fleece-lined zipped pocket for goggles in the main compartment, a dedicated pocket for avalanche equipment and an internal sleeve for a 3L hydration bladder.
Other useful features include an integrated and removable helmet holder which sits on the outside of the pack, a sunglasses holder on the shoulder strap, two ice axe attachment points, two gear straps to affix skis, crampons or a snowboard and finally a side compartment to store maps. Told you it's loaded with features!
