What are the Sherpa FX Carbon Strong Poles?
These are Leki's most robust folding poles, designed for more burly adventures in elevated alpine terrain, winter skiing and summer expeditions at a higher altitude where you'll likely be using crampons.
What are they made of?
The shaft is made with Carbon PRC (Performance Racing Material) 1000 and Aluminium HTS (Heat Treated Shaft) 6.5. Both materials are incredibly strong for their weight to endure a beating in rugged environments. They can withstand extreme loads, meaning you can rely on them for shifting and balancing body weight as you move through technical terrain.
The strap is made using nylon neoprene which is exceptionally durable to resist heavy or regular use and feels smooth against the skin.
What are their features?
Where to begin! The Sherpa FX Carbon Strong Poles come with Aergon Air grips that use an ergonomic shape to optimise comfort. They have a full rubber grip head which prevents slippage, providing control and precision without adding excessive weight to the overall design.
Lock Security Straps offer comfort and help to keep the poles in place in your hand for maximum dexterity. Each strap can be adjusted to fit your specific size. They also have a safety release for emergencies and a comfortable fleece inlay for a luxurious feel.
Grip extensions allow you to adjust the grip for handling steep terrain or traversing, and a Speed Lock 1 Plus locking system means you can adjust the entire pole length using an external clamping mechanism. The mechanism is quick and straightforward to use and offers maximum hold.
An ELD (External Locking Device) System allows you to open and close the folding pole with just one button, reducing faff time for fast-paced mountain days. It also has a special construction that surrounds the trigger button, enhancing stability to ensure the pole doesn't accidentally fold. Clever right?!
These poles come with Leki Trekking Baskets (2.0 version) and Big Mountain Binding Exchange Baskets. Trekking Baskets are compact and help to protect you from sinking into the snow and mud, while the BMB Exchange Baskets are specially designed for touring with a short and long edge. Shorter edges allow you to adjust bindings, while the long edge comes in handy for scraping icy ski skins. Each basket is removable, allowing you to change and adapt them to suit your activity, increasing the poles' overall versatility.
Finally, Flex Tips cover the end of the poles to guarantee accurate pole positioning and optimise grip on virtually any terrain.
