What is the Downtime Shirt?
It's an insulated square quilted shirt jacket that is smart, practical and stylish. With an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio, it offers light weather protection through the shoulder seasons and right through till winter.
Created from recycled materials, it's ideal for everyday use; whether you're off on a weekend getaway, commuting to the office or playing with the kids in the park, this versatile shirt jacket is a master of urban adventures.
What is it made from?
The Downtime Shirt is constructed using partly recycled 700 fill power down, encased in a 20D recycled Pertex® Quantum outer shell and lining.
Pertex® Quantum uses a tightly woven construction that allows the insulation to fully loft. The fabric traps still air, helping warm the insulation and maintain its efficiency whilst creating a light, protective barrier from the elements. It's finished with a lightweight DWR (durable water repellent) that sheds light rain and snow to stop it from soaking in. However, please note that this doesn't make it fully waterproof.
Insulation: The body and sleeves of the jacket uses 80% recycled down and 20% Waterfowl Feather for maximum loft with a reduced environmental impact. The down is treated with a Nikwax fluorocarbon-free Hydrophobic finish, which adds light water resistance to the down itself, aiding its performance in damp conditions.
The collar, chest pocket and cuffs on the jacket are filled with 40gsm Stratus™ Synthetic insulation, made from 100% recycled fibres from post-consumer PET bottles. Stratus™ insulation has a great warmth-to-weight ratio and performance when damp, making it suitable for areas most likely to become moist from rain, splashes and general mishaps during the day.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick breakdown.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 700 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 700 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic Down dries out and lofts quicker, resisting moisture from sweat that may build up as you warm up inside the jacket. Fluorocarbon-free Hydrophobic finishes don't use harmful chemicals that cause damage to the environment - an excellent feature for more eco-conscious adventurers.
What are its features?
The Downtime Shirt, as you have already guessed, features a simple 'shirt-like' construction with snap button closures to the front.
It uses a combination of down and synthetic filling for optimum performance, as previously mentioned. The shirt is constructed from zoned stitch-through baffles that help to stabilise the down, preventing it from moving and spreading unevenly.
For storage, there is a chest pocket with a snap button closure for storing smaller items and two YKK zipped side pockets for storing larger items like your phone, keys and wallet. They also double up as cosy hand warmer pockets, perfect for those frosty mornings when you've forgotten your gloves!
This smart shirt jacket is finished with subtle Rab embroidered branding on the chest pocket.
How does it fit?
Featuring Rab's regular fit, the Downtime Shirt is close enough to perform well as an insulating layer, yet roomy enough to allow a bit of wiggle room for an extra layer or two underneath.
Where does it fit into the layering system?
The Downtime Shirt works perfectly well as an outer layer in dry climates or as a super warm midlayer on cold, frosty winter days. Simply pop a waterproof shell jacket over the top if the weather dictates.
