What is the Firewall Light Jacket?
It's a lightweight, soft, and supple shell jacket that protects you from the elements whilst providing an excellent range of movement for long-lasting comfort during various outdoor adventures in mixed conditions. Versatile and packable, it's an ideal outer layer to store in your backpack for when the weather isn't playing ball.
What is it made from?
The Firewall Light jacket features Rab's soft, innovative fabric, Proflex. This fantastic 20 denier 3-layer material is a breakthrough in comfortable weather protection. It's soft and supple to help keep you moving during changeable and unpredictable weather. This highly protective, waterproof softshell combines unimpeded mobility and flex with exceptional softness, creating lasting comfort for various outdoor activities.
The secret to its performance is the built-in fully flexible waterproof structure that is laminated between a high gauge knitted softshell outer fabric and a high-wicking knitted lining.
Proflex™ 3-layer has a hydrostatic head of 20,000mm with superb breathability and windproofing, meaning the jacket will remain comfortable even under strenuous activity. Whilst the 3-layer membrane is waterproof and has fully taped seams, we'd still recommend wearing a true hardshell jacket for adventures in extreme conditions.
The jacket is finished with a fluorocarbon-free, durable water-repellant (DWR) coating to further encourage rain to bead off the jacket. Fluorocarbons were historically used to add water repellency to textiles, but they are now known to be 'forever chemicals' as they can't break down and are suspected carcinogens. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a greener manufacturing process.
What are its features?
Starting from the top, an adjustable mountain hood shields you from the elements and exposed conditions. You can adjust the hood single-handedly, reducing time spent faffing with your hood, allowing you to focus on your next move. The hood also has a wired and stiffened peak for increased protection, helping to direct the wet weather away from your face.
The sleeves are articulated, providing extra fabric where you need it most to improve freedom of movement and arm lift. Sleeve articulation helps stop the sleeves from riding up when fully stretched, helping you stay fully covered on steep ascents. The cuffs are also extended to provide additional coverage and are adjustable via a hook and loop system to adapt the fit around the wrists or gloves.
For storage, there are two hand pockets to stow away hill snacks and valuables like keys or a mobile phone. Each pocket is secured with a YKK® AquaGuard zip to help prevent literal puddles in your pockets during prolonged downpours.
A dual-sided rear hem adjuster with an anti-snag tether allows you to cinch in the bottom of the jacket, optimising the fit whilst helping to keep the wind out and the heat in.
