What is the Helium Solo?
The lightest sleeping bag in the Mountain Equipment range, the Helium Solo is well suited to warmer conditions. It is the perfect basic sleeping bag for multi-day summer adventures or backpacking in hotter countries.
What is it made of?
Sleeping bags in the Helium series are constructed with a 100% recycled Helium™ 20D outer layer, 90-10 Pure Duck Down and a lining of Supersoft™ 20D with a PFC free durable water repellent (DWR) for sustainable water resistant protection.
Insulation: 90-10 Pure Duck Down fills the sleeping bag, with a minimum fill power of 700. Pure Duck Down is a high quality feather down that feels lightweight and fluffy, offering a substantial amount of warmth in cold temperatures. The down in this product also comes from a Down Codex® Audited Source, making it a much more ethical and sustainable option than lesser quality down on the market.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick break down.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 700 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 700 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
Down Codex® Audited Source - Having a Down Codex® Audited Source stamp indicates that there was no unnecessary harm caused to ducks or geese when collecting the down and that it came from an ethical, traceable source.
Outer: Helium™ 20D - Helium™ fabrics are lightweight, ultra-compressible, high performance materials, perfect for products with weight and bulk at the top of their concerns. Their densely woven structure, using fine denier yarns, offers a layer of downproof yet breathable protection to create an incredibly versatile, functional fabric.
Lining: Supersoft™ 20D - Mountain Equipment has chosen Supersoft™ lining for its breathability and durability. This high quality material is soft to touch, yet weighing in at just 49g/m², it gives exceptional durability and breathability.
What are its features?
The Helium Solo has been designed using the Alpine Fit 2.0, redeveloped from the original Alpine Fit to be marginally wider in vital areas. This fit still comes up slim, it is a tapered fit which helps maximise thermal efficiency without feeling restrictive. The Alpine Fit 2.0 allows better versatility in the overall fit and sizing of the bag, reaching a more comprehensive range of users without sacrificing performance and functionality. This shape also allows users to sleep in varied positions for ultimate comfort and an overall great nights sleep.
The top structure has a stitch-through narrow baffle structure which helps to keep the down in place for even insulation. The base structure is a stitch-through quilted style to cut out bulk and keep the weight down.
Keeping the head warm when sleeping under the stars is super important. It helps reduce conductive heat loss to regulate temperature during sleep for optimum comfort. The low volume, shaped hood does just that. It provides good coverage around the head, reducing bulk whilst providing effective insulation and substantial breathing space.
Down at the toes, there's a four baffle, anatomically shaped offset foot box. The shaping of the foot box gives wriggly sleepers a little extra space, helping alleviate feelings of restriction within the sleeping bag and encouraging a much more natural sleeping position.
