The Kulu is a clever mix; it isn't aimed specifically at one thing. Lowe Alpine have essentially designed the perfect bag for those who love to travel with their life on their back. This particular bag features Lowe Alpine's female specific fit. The shoulders are narrower, the back length is shorter and the whole pack just fits a female frame better, allowing greater weight distribution and enhanced comfort.
What makes this pack different? Unlike most large packs which are designed to carry heavy loads, the Kulu feaures a hipbelt which can be removed and rotated, stashing it safely out of the way for busy airports, train stations or if you just don't want to use it while walking. Not only does this stash it out the way so it doesn't get damaged, but it also means that the included raincover/travel cover can be pulled over the top for added protection from the rain and other sharp objects. Other travel related features are included such as two front carry handles, lash points to attach extra gear and compression straps to tighten down the contents and pull the weight closer to your back.
Carrying comfort is just as important as travel features. After all, a pack won't get used if it's uncomfortable and lumpy! Lowe Alpine feature an adjustable back system which is quick to adjust with two velcro sections; this allows you to customise the fit perfectly to the user. Covering the entire back system is a section of lightweight foam with triangles cut out to save weight and improve breathability, then on top of that is a thin mesh which further enhances the overall comfort of this brilliant pack.
No pack would be complete without a series of useful pockets. The Kulu includes a large zippered front panel which gives you easy access into the main section of the bag, two stretch mesh side pockets for water bottles, a zippered entry into the lower of the bag for a sleeping bag or mat, two hipbelt pockets for snacks or a phone and lastly an internal lid pocket for quick access to other bits and bobs.
