Grivel Mountaineering Equipment

Grivel has been making ice axes, crampons and ice screws since 1818. Their metallurgy is simply second to none. From their base looking out at Mont Blanc, they will always be inspired to produce the best.

The Grivel family of blacksmiths, started to transform their production of agricultural tools. So the ice axe came into being surrounded by scepticism. The English engineer Oskar Eckenstein was received with similar scepticism when he asked Henry Grivel to manufacture the first modern crampons, and it was Henry's son Laurent who made the brilliant addition of the two front points, allowing climbers to stand face on whilst attacking the steep ice and snow gradients.
Whether you're bagging winter Munros or heading into full-blown alpine terrain, Grivel crampons are some of the most trusted tools you can have on your feet. With a heritage dating back to 1818 and a reputation for innovation and reliability, Grivel offers crampons for every level of mountaineering—from gentle snow slopes to steep ice climbs.

The Grivel G10 crampons are a brilliant choice for general winter walking and classic UK hill days. Lightweight, compact, and designed for flexibility, they're ideal for less technical routes and pair well with C1-rated boots. Think snowy ridgelines, frozen paths, and those classic winter scrambles.

The Grivel G12 crampons are a solid step up for steeper, more technical ground. These 12-point beasts are built for mountaineering, glacier travel, and Scottish winter climbing. With versions that fit C2 and C3 boots, they balance stability, durability, and versatility.

Not sure what boot-crampon combo you need? Whether it's C1, C2, or C3 compatibility, semi-automatic vs. strap-on, or how to fit them properly, we've got your back.
