The Bergtagen Longjohns are probably the warmest baselayer trousers available at this point in time. Combining four different variations of wool, they provide warmth, comfort, mobility and stretch in some of the coldest conditions imagineable.
Insulation is provided by four different variations of wool: wool mesh, terry, rib and interlock. Wool terry is used in areas which require the highest levels of warmth such as the crotch, knees and rear, while mesh is used on areas which require breathability, moisture wicking and mobility such as the thighs, back of the knees and lower leg. Wool rib is used in areas which require higher levels of comfort (wool rib features a higher quantity of wool than the others) such as the waist, while wool interlock is used during the stiching process. Overall, this differentiation between several different weights, designs and patterns means you're getting warmth and moisture wicking where you need it, and ventilation and mobility in areas where you don't. As if that wasn't enough, wool is brilliant at wicking away sweat and will resist odours, meaning you can wear them for a few days without smelling like a skip.
Traditional (or cheap) wool has always sparked a memory of itchy, loose fibres causing irritation and general discomfort, however Fjallraven's Merino Wool is so fine that even the most sensitive skinned of users will remain comfortable in cold conditions. Couple this with a smooth knit on the outer of the baselayer to allow additional layers to slide effortlessly over the top and you're onto a winning combination.
