What is the Wander Hiker?
The Wander Hiker GTX is a technical, highly comfortable and versatile mountain walking shoe featuring a Gore-Tex membrane, Michelin sole unit and Salewa's soft and supportive GumFlate midsole system.
What is the Wander Hiker made of?
Made using a durable Nubuck leather upper, the Wander Hikers are durable, abrasion resistant and long lasting; although leather requires a little care over time, they tend to last longer than synthetic counterparts (plus conditioning a pair of leather shoes is really satisfying...). Underneath the leather you'll find a Gore-Tex waterproof membrane, ensuring your feet stay dry throughout the day. On the bottom of the shoe, Michelin's Outdoor Compound sole unit takes care of stability and grips well to mud and slop as well as wet rocks.
Are there any other features?
At the heart of the shoe, Salewa encorporate their GumFlate midsole; a cushioned, highly supportive and comfortable system which reduces stress on the underside of your feet, increases comfort and moulds over uneven terrain. This clever midsole technology almost makes the Wander Hikers feel as comfortable as a running shoe, but with the support and structure of a walking shoe. On the back of the shoe, Salewa's Flex Collar technology prevents the heel of the shoe digging into your achilles when descending, while a 3F system connects the lacing to the sole and ankle of the shoe, meaning when the laces are tightened, the entire shoe contracts rather than just one singular point over the laces.
How does the Wander Hiker fit?
The Wander Hiker's should fit a wide variety of foot shapes, from the fairly narrow to the 'I have to undo my laces A LOT' type foot. We'd always recommend trying footwear on before purchasing, but these are a fairly safe bet if you're an average width.
