What is the Atom AR Hoody?
The Atom AR is an incredibly versatile All Round (AR) jacket suitable for a variety of conditions and temperatures. It's wind and water repellent while remaining highly breathable, and is more than capable of shrugging off the worst of the weather.
What is the Atom AR made of?
Fabric: The Tyono face fabric is a 30 denier nylon fabric have been treated with a Durable Water Repellant (DWR) finish for greater weather protection. The tight weave of the Tyono face fabric allows for very little air permeation which plays a very important role. This minuscule amount of air will go un-noticed but will slowly replenish the warm air that's already trapped inside the insulation and will help to keep you at a comfortable temperature.
However, it has been developed by Arc'teryx to be more durable. Not only is it more durable, the synthetic fibres have been siliconised to further increase breathability by reducing the fibres ability to hold onto moisture.
Insulation: Arc'teryx have actually used 3 different weights of Coreloft in the construction of this jacket; the main body uses 120g/m², under the arms have 80g/m² and the hood is insulated with 60g/m². This zoned insulation increases comfort by aiding temperature regulation as it allows the jacket to trap more warm air where it is needed the most.
What are the features?
The Atom AR features two hand pockets and an internal security pocket - all of which are zipped. The StormHood is fully adjustable, helmet compatable and sits snug to your head, even in strong winds. Finally, to seal out the cold, the Atom AR features a hem drawcord and low-profile Jersey knit cuffs are so soft and so smooth you'll barely notice that they are there, especially when you do need to “layer up".
How does the Atom AR fit?
As an insulating piece it’s designed to fit pretty closely to maximise the insulation. The last thing you want is a big baggy jacket as you’ll waste energy warming up all that dead air space, and conversely you don’t want it too tight either as that’ll hinder the insulations ability to trap warmth. With the Arcteryx Regular Fit there’s enough room for lightweight layers yet it still fits closely to ensure maximum performance.
The arms are nice and long and don’t restrict your movement if you have to reach when climbing or scrambling.
Where does the Atom AR fit in the layering system?
The Atom AR is an insulating jacket that works well as a stand-alone jacket on still, chilly days, but can also be layered up under a shell in colder, damp conditions.
