What is the Infinity Jacket?

The Infinity is for those who can't stand being cold and/or damp. Insulated with a massive 250g of 800 fill power down and surrounded by a protective Gore Infinium membrane, it's ideal as a belay jacket or winter mountaineering piece.

What is it made of?

Insulation: Let's start with the beating heart of the Infinity, the insulation. Before we even get onto how much and what of, lets actually go through how Rab put the insulation into the jacket. Typically, down jackets feature a stitch-through construction, meaning the baffles are connected a little like an infinity symbol, however the Infinity features a boxwall construction. This construction connects cubes of down together to reduce the amount of heat that can escape, meaning a far warmer jacket without using far more down. Now we've got that cleared up, we can get onto what Rab actually stuff inside. A massive 250g of 800 fill power goose down is placed into each baffle, providing bucket loads of warmth when belaying or winter mountaineering.

Outer fabric: Surrounding all of this insulation is a Gore Infinium membrane. The achilles heel of down is that when it becomes saturated, it loses its ability to provide warmth. A Gore Infinium membrane provides complete windproofing and a high degree of water resistancy to ensure wind nor rain cuts your day short. Technically this membrane isn't fully waterproof, but in practive we've found that only prolonged torrential rain will eventually seep through. Finally, a ripstop nylon fabric surrounds the membrane and protects it from general abuse.

What are the features?

Starting at the top, the Infinity features a helmet compatible down insulated hood with a wired peak and concealed adjusters to seal in the warmth around your face. Moving down, you've got articulated sleeves for increased comfort when climbing, a two-way front zip which allows you to slip the jacket over a climbing harness, a large chest pocket, two hand pockets, two internal mesh pockets which are ideal for bulky gloves, a hem drawcord, an included stuffsack, reflective logos and lastly adjustable cuffs.

How does it fit?

The Infinity fits into Rab's 'regular' fit block, however we'd say it sizes up fairly large. This is to allow layers to fit underneath in super cold conditions, but also to allow complete freedom of movement when mountaineering.

Where does it fit in the layering system?

The Infinity is designed to be your outer layer in super cold conditions. Thanks to the Gore Infinium membrane and protective outer fabric, you'll most likely never have to stick a shell over the top.

This is a bit more tricky! Measure from the top of your spine (at the bottom of your neck) to your elbow and on the your wrist
