What is the La Sportiva TX5?The TX5 is part of La Sportiva’s Traverse X collection. These models combine elements from their entire range to bring you the shock absorption, fit and flexibility from the running range, the durability and protection from the mountaineering range, full lacing and Megagrip soles from the climbing range, resulting in a truly versatile and high-performance pair of boots.
Not only do they look fantastic but they are perfect for just about any mountain activity including trekking, backpacking, approach, scrambling and even a bit of easy climbing.
What is the TX5 made of?Outer: With any mountain orientated boot, durability is key and is one of the main criteria to which a boot is judged. The TX5's feature a full nubuck leather upper to fend off sharp rocks and other abuse, backed up by a full 360° rubber rand which gives you further peace of mind.
Look a little closer into this brilliant boot and you'll notice every stitch, seam and join is meticulously crafted to ensure you're never let down.
Lining:Lined with Gore-Tex, the TX5 is completely waterproof and breathable, which makes them perfect for our typically wet UK mountain conditions.
Footbed: La Sportiva provide a fairly standard Ortholite foam footbed with the TX5’s, they provide a soft layer between your foot and the boot and help to wick away moisture. However, if you need more support underfoot it’s worth replacing these with something like a pair of Superfeet.
Midsole: The TX5 has an injected EVA layer running the full length of the foot that gives great cushioning and shock absorbency. The midsole also provides fantastic support laterally, so if you're perched on steep rock you get support right across the foot, but it is still flexible enough longitudinally for comfortable trekking.
Outsole: To remain truly versatile the TX5 needs to be capable on the rock face as well as on a grassy and muddy footpath. Vibram take care of this by using their Megagrip sole unit; a super sticky rubber compound that was originally designed for approach and climbing use but has proven so successful that you now see it on many other walks of life. Not only is it great for general walking and backpacking, but it provides the crucial grip you need while scrambling, climbing or Via Ferrata.
Providing further grip, especially when descending, is La Sportiva’s “Impact Brake System”. This innovative system is applied to the sole design to absorb negative ground impact, help traction and improve grip downhill. Created and developed by the R&D department at La Sportiva, it offers real advantages by reducing negative ground impact. The unique position of the multi-directional lugs allows as many of them as possible to come into contact with the ground for maximum control and impact absorption.
What are the features? The main features of the TX5 are mostly in the fabulous construction, but there are a couple of clever technologies that are worth a mention.
3D Flex system. Another clever bit of design technology that incorporates a multi-directional hinge at the ankle to allow full freedom of movement and flexibility without sacrificing stability and control. The enhanced flexibility also ensures the maximum amount of sole contact with the ground to make the most of that Impact Brake System.
The protective cuff design is derived from La Sportiva’s Trango Family of boots and enhances the 3D flex system whilst providing support and protection for your ankle.
