What is the Particle Vest?
The Particle Vest is a sleeveless jacket filled with synthetic insulation, perfect for hiking or trekking, climbing and scrambling in minus temperatures. It's versatile enough to be worn between autumn and spring, either as an insulating midlayer or lightweight outer layer for milder, drier days, no matter if you're on the hill or heading into town.
What is it made of?
This gilet has a recycled polyamide outer and lining, which is lightweight and offers plenty of durability for activity in rugged terrain. The outer is treated with a PFC-free DWR (Durable Water Repellent), creating light water resistance and encouraging rain or snow to bead off the fabric.
It's filled using recycled 3M's reliable Polarloft® Featherless insulation. Polarloft® Featherless is the softest insulation in the Polarloft® range. It's a synthetic insulation with similar qualities to down, as it is blown into baffles to provide maximum loft and trap warmth. A considerable benefit of synthetic insulation over down is that it resists water much better. Synthetic insulation absorbs less water, staying lofted when damp and retaining heat. Compared to sheet insulation, Polarloft® Featherless moves much better with the body as it's looser, making it more wearable and adaptable to suit your activity.
This vest has stretch fleece inserts to increase freedom of movement and breathability. These inserts are made of polyester and have a brushed inner face, making them smooth to touch for maximum comfort. The panels are strategically placed in areas where you may need more movement and less insulation, helping to reduce the overall bulk of the design and making it much more versatile.
What are its features?
The stitch-through quilted construction offers an even spread of warmth and helps to prevent the filling from migrating. Baffles are smaller to lower the bulk yet still provide plenty of space for the insulation to loft, making it much more packable without compromising efficiency.
The armholes and hem are also elastane bound, providing better freedom of movement for steep ascents and technical activity, and stretch for fitting layers underneath.
There's a YKK® moulded centre front zip on the front, which is reliable, easy to use, and helps reduce ice build-up, and for storage, there are two zipped handwarmer pockets, perfect for snacks, energy gels or an extra pair of gloves.
All of this goodness packs down into the gilets very own hand pocket! It has twin carabiner loops, giving you the option to hook it onto a kit bag or daypack if you don't want to use up the precious room inside.
