MSR WindBoiler 1.0L Personal Stove System

Season:ZZZ Discontinued

Brand:MSR

Code:CDMSRWDBO1L

The MSR WindBoiler is not only stupidly rapid at boiling water, it is also lightweight, easy to use and assemble. Everything packs down into and around the 1 litre cooking pot and there is even space to stash a 110g gas canister.

At the heart of this beasty little boiler is what is known as a radiant burner, very similar to the one found in the MRS Reactor stove system, just with a few tweaks. For those of you that are not familiar with radiant burners here is a brief break down of what they do and how they do it:

The first thing you will notice is that there is no visible flame that is because it is hiding internally; this protects the flame and stops wind speed from greatly effecting the boil times.

Secondly, the fact that 100% of oxygen used to help fuel the combustion of the gas is mixed before the actual burning, this means that the flame inside can reach greater temperatures. Think back to your high school days, it is essentially the difference between to yellow flame and a blue flame on a Bunsen burner; when you opened the valve and let the air mix with the gas before it was burnt you would get the fiercely hot blue flame. That's basically what this stove is doing.

Finally, this flame is used to heat up the internal element, which kind of looks like a type of metal sponge. This spreads out the heat more evenly; meaning that the heat is being transferred over a larger surface area which will then heat up the contents of the pot much quicker. However it doesn’t stop there, the pot itself is very cleverly constructed not to waste as much heat energy as the competition. When you take a look underneath at the heat exchanger, you will see that there are air channels on the base and up around the side of the cooking pot. So not only does this stove heat from underneath it also transfers heat around the lower sides too, therefore further increasing the amount of heat being transferred into the pot and therefore boiling the your water more effectively.

What does this mean? It means that you use less gas, which is always handy on those longer trips, and you spend less time waiting around for your food and hot beverages.
