The Osprey Variant 37 is a true winter workhorse, designed to carry everything you need for extreme mountain adventures in the most demanding conditions. The versatile 37 litre capacity large enough to carry all the essentials needed for winter mountaineering but isn't so large as to become unweidly or unbalancing on technical ground.
Osprey have used an integrated peripheral frame to ensure the load remains stable and supported throughout the entire length of the back system. This keeps things balanced and stable yet also allows flexibility to enable full freedom of movement; which is handy when your thrutching up some ice filled gulley on Ben Nevis. The back panel is compression moulded for comfort and lightweight and uses a special snow-shedding material to reduce water ingress.
If the regular 37 litres isn't enough for a particular trip you are able to expand the capacity by extending the floating lid, in fact the lid can also be removed completely to strip down the weight. With the lid removed you can deploy the built in FlapJack compression over the top of the sack to keep out the elements and further compress the load. Further weight stripping of up to 620g can be achieved by removing the hipbelt and other features that you don't need to create a super light ascent pack.
All your wInter mountaineering tools and equipment have their own special attachement points on the Variant so you'll always know where they are. The innovative front compression shield secures carmpons, snow shovels, probes and ski-touring skins whilst twin side loops secure your skis. The front panel has abrasion resistant TPU layers to protect the main body of the pack from picks and crampons and will accept practically any make and model of climbing axe. Gear loops on each hip belt fin organise your ice-screws, prussiks and karabiners.
The Osprey Variant is a purposeful, versatile and super-tough winter mountaineering and climbing pack for extreme mountain adventures.
