What is the Velocity? The Scarpa Velocity is an entry level indoor climbing shoe that manages to be both eco-friendly and vegan. It remains comfortable and is perfect for all day use. Primarily designed as an indoor climbing shoe, the velocity excels for both beginner climbers looking for their first shoe and more advanced climbers looking for all-day comfort.
How are they constructed?The Velocity’s have a microfibre upper, which is vegan friendly, that can be washed easily, meaning no matter how much you climb your shoes will stay fresh and last a long time. The microfibre upper has the advantage of offering minimal stretch, making sizing easier. The shoe is built on Scarpa’s ultra-durable Vision rubber, this, along with the ability to be re-soled, helps save on materials and helps prolong the life of the shoe. Definitely an environmental win.
The shoe is built around a flat last that has little asymmetry, making a shoe that acts as a great introduction to climbing shoes for beginners, but also offering a supportive choice for all day sessions and multi-pitch for the more advanced climber.
What are the features?The Velocity’s feature the Wave closure system, a wave shaped strap that evenly distributes pressure across the top of the foot from the straps and buckles, it gives a glove-like fit with excellent flexibility for the foot during climbing. The ultra-durable Vision rubber offers great traction when smearing, whilst the stiff midsole offers lots of support when standing on smaller holds, great for getting the weight through your toes. Twin loops at the heel act as both hanging loops when the shoes are not in use, but more importantly make getting the shoes on much easier.
How do they fit?They are built around Scarpa’s FFX last which has been designed to offer more comfort than some of the more performance oriented shoes in Scarpa’s range. The Velocity has a centre biased shape, meaning the toe point is longest in the centre of the toe box. The shoes also offer a medium width and heel cup, making them well suited to users with a medium width foot, but also to those seeking a more comfortable climbing shoe.
