What is the Black Diamond Distance Tent?
The Distance is a super light, super packable single wall shelter which pitches using two trekking poles and packs down to an incredible size not much bigger than a 1L water bottle. It's ideal for backpackers, hikers and mountain adventurers who are low on space.
What is it made from?
The main bulk of the tent is made using a tough, waterproof, breathable 30D polyester with a durable water repellent coating to improve breathability. Due to the nature of polyester, the tent won't stretch when wet and is more resistant to harmful UV rays than standard nylon fabrics. The guylines are made from an even tougher polyester and dyneema combination to minimise stretch and maximise overall strength.
How is it constructed?
The Distance has an usual yet ingenious design which utilises two Black Diamond trekking poles to keep the tent upright. Rather than using the standard method which is generally to have intercepting poles bend over the top of the tent and down to the other side, the Distance uses just two trekking poles and one lightweight cross pole in its design. This not only makes it super cool looking, but means that when trekking, backpacking or travelling, the tent packs down to almost nothing and the poles can be stored in a traditional trekking pole loop/clip featured on most rucksacks. The shape of the tent (almost like a big block of cheese) also means rain can't pool and runs off freely.
What are the features?
Starting with ventilation, there are two vents, one at the foot area and one at the peak; this allows you to pitch the tent into the wind for effective ventilation during hotter months. The door features a double ended zip so you can also ventilate by opening the top or bottom of the door slightly, while a headlamp pocket in the peak of the tent gives you quick and easy access to essentials.
