What is the Fireball XT Hoodie?
It's a more robust and air-permeable version of Montane's Fireball Hoodie. It’s designed to keep you warm and comfortable without overheating during intense and fast-paced mountain activities. Ideal to be used as a lightweight outer layer in dry conditions, it works equally as well as a warm, mid-layer instead of a fleece, helping to reduce the amount of kit you need to carry in your pack.
Created for more technical adventures like alpine ascents, mountaineering and tricky climbing routes in demanding environments, the Fireball XT offers high-performance warmth and breathability when you need it most.
What is it made from?
Insulation - Montane has used 60g/m2 Dynamic Eco Insulation throughout the jacket, which is made from 100% recycled polyester. This low-bulk synthetic insulation works exceptionally well to create a comfortable temperature balance, retaining heat effectively.
The benefit of synthetic insulation over down is that it will retain its warmth even if it gets wet. It also dries quickly and packs down small so you can easily stash it in your pack when you’re not using it.
Outer - The outer is constructed from a 40D abrasion-resistant, air-permeable, quick-drying fabric called Vector Lite. Created from a combination of Nylon and Elastane, Vector lite features a robust 2-way stretch for intense mountain activities. This durable face fabric is treated with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) to encourage light rain to bead off the jacket instead of soaking in. However, please note that this does not make the jacket fully waterproof.
Lining - The lining of the hoody uses 12D Featherlite™ Air Nylon Stretch, which feels incredibly lightweight, durable and has a two-way stretch for plenty of movement and flexibility. This air-permeable fabric is designed to provide maximum breathability and comfort during high-output activities.
What are its features?
The Fireball XT features Montane's mountain fit, which has a little extra space to allow for technical layering in cold environments whilst still sitting close enough to the body to perform well as an insulating layer.
A fully adjustable hood allows you to easily cinch it in and tailor the protection from the elements. Its stiffened peak at the top provides a little extra coverage across your face, keeping rain, wind and snow out of your eyes for better visibility in challenging conditions.
A two-way YKK Vislon zip closure that is easy to use when wearing gloves can be undone from the bottom up, allowing you to access a climbing harness underneath or get some extra ventilation around your midsection if things start to warm up.
Articulated sleeves offer better freedom of movement for the arms and shoulders, allowing you to reach higher on technical manoeuvres without fabric riding up and skin being exposed to the cold.
For storage, there is a single chest pocket suitable for keeping your mobile phone or GPS close to hand. Two hand pockets offer space for trail snacks, energy gels and small guidebooks. Each pocket is secured with a YKK® zip to ensure nothing slips out when you're on the mountain.
The cuffs are elasticated to give more flexibility at the wrists, improving mobility and allowing you to fit them over chunky gloves or mitts. A fully adjustable hem cinches in excess fabric to stop it from flapping around in high winds. It also traps warm air, reducing heat loss and keeping cold winds from blowing up the jacket on exposed routes.
