What is Duality Jacket?
Waterproof, warm and insulated - The Duality is the ultimate solution to your winter needs. Combining fully seam-taped and waterproof Gore-Tex with PrimaLoft insulation, this jacket has been specifically designed for hiking, walking, trekking and all-round adventuring in the true British winter mountain weather. The Duality is tough, durable, breathable, exceptionally comfortable and boasts very impressive environmental credentials.
What is the Duality Jacket Made from?
Insulation: Ok, let's start with the stuff that keeps you warm. Montane has used the ever-reliable Primaloft Gold synthetic insulation. Primaloft has been around for years and has proven its credentials in some of the worst conditions however Primaloft Gold is a little different to previous generations of Primaloft. 55% of Primaloft Gold is made from recycled polyester and still provides with exceptional warmth at a very light weight. Each fiber of the insulation is coated with a permanent water repellent which means the filling absorbs virtually no water and dries exceptionally quickly. The jacket is easily packed down, so can be stashed in your pack until you need it.
Outer: Protecting all that gorgeous insulation is a tough, breathable, durable 40D Gore-tex with Gore Performance Technologies. Time and time again Gore-tex shows us that it’s one of the most reliable waterproof technologies on the market. The 40D outer is the ideal thickness to balance breathability, flexibility and durability. Its rugged construction has been designed for year-round use. The jacket is then given a DWR coating to help water bead off the face of the fabric.
Inner Fabric: The inner fabric of the Duality is a PEAQ synthetic ECO lining that is supremely comfortable next to skin and is highly breathable. It is also 100% recycled, meaning that the Duality has very impressive environmental credentials as well as being able to keep you warm and dry.
What are the features?
Starting at the top, Montane equip the Duality with an insulated hood that has plenty of room to fit your beanie or cap under whilst providing extra warmth on the colder days when you need it. It is adjustable which is handy on windy days when you don't want the hood flapping around allowing in cold air, and has a stiffened peak to keep the rain, wind and snow out of your eyes. If you don't require the use of the hood, it can be rolled away neatly. Further down, you've got a full-length YKK zip with an internal storm flap to stop rain from getting in; it can also be used for extra ventilation just by unzipping it as and when you need.
Storage wise you've got two hand pockets and an external chest pocket all with YKK Aquaguard Zips, more than enough to stash your keys, phone, and map. To further seal out the elements the jacket features an adjustable hem with a drawcord and velcro adjustable cuffs.
How does it fit into the layering system?
The Duality comes under Montane’s Active Mountain fit. So as an insulating/waterproof jacket, it's designed to fit pretty snug and close to your body but has enough wiggle room under it for an extra layer on those really chilly days.
