What is the Mythic Ultra?
The Mythic Ultra is the perfect companion for extreme alpine adventures and mountaineering expeditions. It feels almost weightless for the amount of warmth it gives, which is optimised using built-in TILT technology. It looks, feels and performs fantastically in the coldest conditions - what more could you want?
What is it made of?
The materials are what make this jacket so unique. The Mythic Ultra Jacket uses a 10D Recycled Pertex® Quantum Nylon Ripstop on the outer shell and lining, with a polyester scrim and 900 fill power down insulation.
Insulation: The jacket uses 900 fill power, R.D.S Certified European Goose Down, offering maximum loft (fluffiness) and insulation.
European Goose Down is fantastic quality down - it has larger clusters than Duck Down which improves the warmth to weight ratio. These clusters are made up of tiny feather strands that trap heat, which is why it's so important to get a quality jacket with a construction that allows its insulation to loft effectively!
The down is treated with a Nikwax fluorocarbon free Hydrophobic finish, which adds light water resistance to the down itself.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick break down.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 900 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 900 cubic inches of space when fully lofted. For a more detailed explanation, you can check out our YouTube video on fill power by clicking here.
R.D.S - The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down is sourced from happy birds who haven't been plucked and have been well cared for.
Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic down dries out and lofts quicker, resisting moisture from sweat that may build up as you're warming up inside the jacket. Fluorocarbon free Hydrophobic finishes don't use harmful chemicals that cause damage to the environment - a bonus for more eco-conscious adventurers.
Outer Shell & Lining: The lining uses 10D Recycled Pertex® Quantum, which contains incredibly fine yarns and has a tight weave to create a soft, windproof layer that helps improve the efficiency of the insulation by trapping more warm air inside.
Secondary Lining: The scrim (an internal fine mesh layer) is 100% polyester and has an aluminium coating. The scrim is where this jacket gets so techy. It uses TILT technology, which sits around the torso like a built-in vest, as close to the body as possible for maximum efficacy.
TILT Technology is Thermo Ionic Lining Technology. It reduces radiative heat loss by reflecting heat back towards the body for increased levels of warmth. TILT Technology has hugely impacted the warmth to weight ratio of the jacket. It can reduce radiant heat loss by up to 15%, which is a significant saving if you're out in freezing temperatures. It's a really efficient way to stay warm without dealing with the bulk of dense, heavy layers. It's a must-have for those planning to tackle the Alps during the winter.
What are the features?
The Mythic Ultra Jacket uses body mapped offset boxwall baffles, or 'brick baffles', and stitch through construction, which helps eliminate cold spots by overlapping slightly to avoid gaps or thin, uneven areas in the insulation. Boxwall baffle structures give down more space to fluff up, while classic stitch through baffles help reduce bulk.
A helmet compatible hood gives climbers the option to pull the hood over their helmets when the weather gets rough, or a route becomes more exposed. The hood is down filled to keep your tabs extra toasty, and has a part elasticated opening, so it cinches around your face for improved insulation. You'll be grateful for a stiffened peak at the top of the hood when the wet weather sets in! The arms and hood are where you'll find the stitch-through construction, reducing weight and increasing mobility by offering more space where you need it most.
Sleeves are precurved and articulated, allowing them to sit more naturally around the arms, making them far more comfortable. These shaped sleeves will enable the wearer to move around without restriction, a fantastic feature for those scrambling or climbing on technical terrain. The cuffs are elasticated, offering extra flexibility around the wrists and closing gaps at the bottom of the sleeves to keep the heat in when it's blowing a hooley.
A chunky YKK® VISLON® zip sits down the centre front. You can still find and use it easily with both cold fingers or chunky gloves.
At the hem of the jacket, you'll find a lightweight dual sided adjustment with an anti-snag tether which is super easy and quick to use.
How does it fit?
This jacket fits regular, leaving a little room underneath for different layers, giving you the chance to create your very own effective layering system.
