What is the Downpour Mountain Jacket?
It's a light and comfortable waterproof shell jacket packed with a surprising feature set for its weight. Made from recycled materials, it utilises Pertex® Shield waterproof technology to protect you from the elements in various climates when hiking, hill walking, or trekking across the seasons.
What is it made from?
The Downpour Mountain Jacket uses a 2.5 layer Pertex® Shield construction, which is a highly breathable, waterproof fabric designed for use in the mountains when protection, weight and breathability are key. This 2.5 layer waterproof material combines a robust 40D face fabric with a waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane with a smooth backer. The face fabric is finished with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) coating to encourage rain to bead off the jacket instead of soaking in, without the use of harmful forever chemicals.
Pertex® Shield delivers a hydrostatic head rating of 20,000mm and a breathability MVTR score of 20,000 g/m2/24hrs, meaning it offers great waterproof protection and breathability for various outdoor activities. The jacket feels soft, packable and noticeably quieter than a traditional shell jacket, making it the perfect piece for stashing in your rucksack ready for when the weather turns without taking up heaps of space.
What are its features?
Starting from the top, a two-way adjustable hood provides essential protection from the elements, whilst the stiffened peak helps keep rain and snow away from the face. The hood can easily be adjusted with one hand at the back or via the concealed internal cord locks, allowing you to cinch it right in close to the face in bad weather.
A two-way YKK® AquaGuard® VISLON® front zip with a soft chin guard helps stop water ingress through the zip and prevent any discomfort around the face when fully zipped. It offers easy use with a climbing harness and can be unzipped from the top or bottom to provide better mobility through the hips for steep ascents. Two YKK® pit zips offer excellent ventilation, allowing you to quickly dump excess heat when you're working hard.
For storage, you'll find two zipped A-line pockets and a single chest pocket for keeping your trail essentials close to hand and protected from the elements. The pockets are strategically placed to be easily accessible when wearing a backpack and use YKK® AquaGuard® zips to help prevent literal puddles in your pocket.
Fully articulated sleeves provide a natural range of movement for various outdoor activities, whilst the extended cuffs provide additional coverage across the wrists when reaching up or stretching. The cuffs feature hook and loop adjustments to allow you to achieve the perfect fit around gloves or mitts.
