What is the Namche GTX Jacket?
The Namche GTX is the perfect all-round Gore-Tex® shell jacket for everyday adventures, leisurely activities and outdoor lifestyles, whether hiking on a showery April weekend or even taking the dog for a walk nearer to home. It has plenty of sustainable credentials, including 100% recycled fabric and a fluorocarbon-free finish.
What is it made of?
This jacket comprises 75D Recycled Gore-tex® three-layer, which provides maximum waterproof protection and plenty of breathability to keep you comfortable and dry all day long.
Being recycled of course bumps up this jacket's environmental credentials without compromising quality and function - it still performs fantastically like standard, non-recycled Gore-Tex® and has a smart, durable finish. The backer is solution dyed, which also reduces energy use within the manufacturing process, and finally, the material is coated with fluorocarbon-free DWR (durable water repellent), which encourages the rain to bead off the fabric, enhancing the materials already waterproof properties.
Fluorocarbon-free finishes are much more eco-friendly than conventional treatments as they don't use chemicals that cause harm to the environment.
What are its features?
The Namche has a two-way adjustable hood that allows you to enhance the fit around different head shapes and sizes or over layers like hoodies and beanie hats. It can be adjusted with the concealed internal cord locks with just one hand, so you don't have to faff about removing gloves or putting gear down.
The hood also has a wired and stiffened peak that comfortably sits above the forehead, helping direct rain away from your face and increasing weather protection. When the jacket is fully fastened, you’ll feel the benefit of the fleecy chin guard that protects your skin from snagging in the zip.
Speaking of zips, the front zip is a YKK® Aquaguard zip that's durable, protective and easy to use.
There are two YKK® Aquaguard zippered hand pockets that offer plenty of space for gloves, snacks and energy gels and two-way YKK® Aquaguard pit zips also give you ventilation under the arms, perfect for when the rain is heavy as they're placed underneath the arms and won't be exposed to the wet when they're open.
YKK® Aquaguard zips are taped to ensure water doesn't seep through the entry.
Articulated sleeves enhance freedom of movement for scrambling or using walking poles by providing more space where you need it most.
The cuffs come with hook and loop adjusters that allow you to adapt the fit around either bare wrists, chunky gloves or mittens. They're easy to use and extremely stable, so you won't have to worry about them falling apart if you wear this jacket regularly.
A rear hem adjustment allows you to cinch in the bottom of the jacket to retain heat and keep the wind out. The adjuster is mitt friendly - even with the chunkiest of chunky gloves it should still be easy to get hold of.
Finally, all seams are taped with Gore-Tex® Pro seam taping to prevent water from leaking, as rainwater can easily seep through holes made in the fabric after stitching it together. The taping is refined, neat and not at all bulky, so you won't even notice it's there!
